I think the C&D letter was legit. When have we ever known Prince to not be all over his releases if they are official? The Dr. didn't state the 3rdEyeGirl came from a source close to Prince, he just said "Don't ask.....just go!!!!!!" as though he knew the material wouldn't be up there for very long.

I don't know because that link and vids stayed up for almost 48 hours, and I would think as much attention that music received, I would think it would have been shut down early yesterday, if that site wasn't suppose to post that stuff. Furthermore, I don't think 'J' would have taken a chance like that and post it on his blog without permission. I actually thought that 3rdeye site was posting that stuff legitimately. Who knows? shrug

Agreed with respect to J7. He wouldn't post Prince bootlegs without Prince's OK.

Annnnnnd, there is no way in the world anyone could have got that Bambi rehearsal footage without Prince allowing it to happen.

This is all very dumb. Prince just release your music like everyone else does, just this once please. You've been playing these mystery games for so long and for so many years, it's become a massive bore!

It's possible the C&D was a joke and then someone went and claimed Copyright on the videos. Youtube allows anyone to claim copyright without proof. It happened to NASA a few months ago.

But yeah, very interesting. The plot thickens.

Actually, yes I am.

What I'm talking about are the hoops that Prince fans have to go thru just to get his music. There's always some crap like having to go to two seperate websites (as in this case) or the original NPG website which had that long-winded space intro scenario with the text flying at you at slow speeds, then you had the Kingdom Hall mess with all the confusing rooms (logging into that was so cumbersome), then you couldn't play the tracks you bought and downloaded cuz they were DRM. I had to get rid of those songs and videoa cuz I couldn't play them anymore. It's a good thing I got them on a high quality bootleg. See? All that DRM defeated the purpose of Prince's security measures.

I'm all for surprises but today David Bowie announced a new album as a surprise on his birthday. Now some of us are looking forward to a new album from a rock master. See how easy this should all be if Prince just, simply...i don't know....annouced a new album that's going to be sold on a specific day in the very near future. Paranoia sucks.

I can't believe that I visit this board just about every day just so I don't miss anything new. I miss checking a couple of days and not just 1, but 4 new tracks come and go. Songs I know I'd really like.

The whole thing appears to be a PR move, but who knows if those 4 tracks will every be available again.

ugh

Dude, at that time EVERYBODY used DRM. iTunes didn't drop it until 2009!

I call "Shenanigans!"

I believe Prince is behind this from the beginning.

- Dr. Funkenberry linked to it, in fact, his link is still there

- Bandmembers linked to in on Facebook

- Shelby's Youtube account with exclusive leaks from a couple years ago

- Andy's "leaks" on facebook this past year

- The Screwdriver video & Bambi are from the same rehearsal tryout

- The Screwdriver videos "Bootlegs 4 Days" line

If these tracks were stolen, this is an extreme case of "inside job". It would not be difficult to figure out who the person(s) responsible were. They would be facing some serious legal problems in the immediate future. This wouldn't be like one of us putting unreleased material that was already in circulation on youtube. This stuff wasn't in circulation and would have to be uploaded by the thief or someone close to them....

Shenanigans, shenanigans, shenanigans! This is Prince trying to use social media to promote himself and his music without having to admit that the internet is in fact not dead.

That said... I friggin' love it! I dig the whole thing. Just not buying the "official" story.

wink

Not dead, not in prison, still funkin'...

Prince's lawyer sends 3rd Eye Girl cease and desist letter

Judging by the letter that 3rd Eye Girl just received from Prince's litigation counsel, yesterday's leak of four unreleased songs is not just some sort of marketing stunt happening within the organization. Yes, a cease and desist letter, dated January 7, was posted today to the 3rd Eye Girl's social media sites. In it, Kaye Scholer LLP writes that "It has recently come to our attention that a person with the alias of 3rdEyeGirl has posted four bootleg recordings of Prince's music." And so on and so forth. It's unfortunate, because the most interesting part of the letter is cut off. "Moreover, many of the social media commentors, as well as mainstream publications, appear to be under the impression" -- and then? Appear to be under the impression that this is actually Prince's doing? (Edited for compliance) ...

Is Prince just messing with us all?

09 January 2013

by Nathan Jolly

After years of playing hard-ball with the Internet (hiring Web Sheriff John Giacobbi to strip the web of any content he owns the copyright to), it seems Prince is toying with the format, and the listening world in the process. (Edited for compliance)

...............and yesterday he (supposedly) went even further, setting up a Twitter account under the very-Prince name 3rdEyeGirl (although the origin of the account has not been confirmed) and dropping the entirely new song Same Page Different Book, as well as an extended version of Lay Me Down, a remix of RNR and a rehearsal video of the song Bambi.

Now the videos have been taken down, with the Twitter account posting the below cease and desist letter. A clever marketing ploy, or simply an insider who has crossed the purple one? More news/speculation as it comes to hand.

Hmmm, why do I think this is the "Purple Yoda's" attempt at viral marketing. I just can't believe that both Hannah Ford & Donna Grantis would tweet & fb this w/o having some info or talking to him.

So lets's just sit back & wait 4 ScrewDriver 2 be "leaked" cuz I think it's, as Andy Allo would say "Afrotastic"

So the clips have been removed from Youtube for the time being, will Prince now set up his own legit Youtube channel to get back out there, as 3rdeyegirl has clearly shown that the internet is not dead for Prince?

3000 odd followers on Twitter in few days without much publicity ain't bad!

Imagine if Prince actually did something as simple as that? Hell I'm sure he could somehow work out something with WB and let him upload the old music videos. Or heck, even just videos he's released since he left WB.

It's...not...that...hard Prince. Seriously.

Sure.

You can dream if you want to.

DrFB got fooled into believing it was mr Prince behind this.

It also shows how extremely shady the normal routine is by which DrFB gets the mr P stuff.

I did not yet mention here that it shows how bad mr P's security is w.r.t. leaks of materials.

It all fits into the whole way by which mr P does his business.
