U Got the Look

Most Prince videos, you have to be a fan to actualy think they're any good. The songs are great, but the videos are meh.

However, he has a few good ones:

1. Kiss - I think this is his best

2. Musicology - Great video. Captures the mood.

3. The Morning Papers

4. Melt with U - What a nasty video

5. U Got the Look

I love the video for Empty Room it's so haunting.

I omitted any video that was a "live" performance.

Although I enjoy videos like insatiable-the editing is horrible on it.

My favourite is AUTOMATIC

That bondage stuff is hilarious and the torture scene is hilarious and the fact he is singing with that ridiculous dominatrix cap on. I love many others, but this thing is in a league of its own. I don't imagine that it would have got much rotation given how the theme of it would have been perceived by younger viewers.

The whole bondage/dominatrix theme was fairly new in 1982, but as the 80s wore on the theme became more common with Annie Lennox and Grace Jones projecting the dominatrix image (Missionary Man) anyone.

Its also great because Automatic is a good song and he has not truncated the fuck out of the song for the video, its nearly as long as the album track and very watchable as for once, Prince is at the whims of Lisa and Jill Jones.

Gotta show my love for Alphabet St, which usually tops peoples' Worst lists - but I love it, and think it has a great sense of fun that really suits the song.

My fave overall is I Wish U Heaven, and I don't think anybody can dispute the greatness of U Got the Look, Little Red Corvette, and Kiss.

I give Prince credit for not overmaking his music videos. Some artists began turning every music video they shot into a mini-feature with celebrity cameos and the songs(quality or topics) didn't warrant that treatment at all. Prince just seemed to have fun with it all and never took it too seriously.
