This explains why songs like Rock n Roll Love Affair sounds a bit boring. Actually I like it as a whole, but the vocals could have been a bit more interesting. I wouldn't argue with a person that says his vocals on that track is a bit dull. However I like the whole concept of it, the mix and that it sounds so effortles at the same time. to me, it's the vocals that really make the song work... the restraint is very cool on this track

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
If this were true, Tony M's raps, Kirk Johnson's lousy help, and some of Larry Graham's 70'S Influence would not have existed. Doug E Fresh could have been used as a five minute crowd pleaser/flunky, but Prince had him out there 20 min or more sometimes.

My issue is, I am finding that I am not going back to Princes stuff of the last 10 years as much as I am to the last 10 years of Bowies Career.
If you look at the triumph that was Heathen. I mean you would scream if you put out an album as good as that so late on in your career where every song is a highlight. Deep ballads, heavy rock, futuristic sounding anthems. A return to form right at the end of his career. Where as Prince now seems to enjoy coasting. I still love Prince and he will always be number 1 just wish he would push himself. Create something weird again. Do a song where you just scream all the way through. Give us something we have not heard. Quite trying to be cool and do what you used to do by making the music do the talking and you naturally become cool because of it.

The flamboyant, androgynous image, makeup and clothes.. The changing your sound look, hairstyle, etc with each new album.. Making each tour a unique theatrical experience from the last.. Bowie did these first. Respect!

Prince has the better music but Bowie has the better personality. Much more down to earth.

Yeah, Bowie knows how to connect a little better, even though he still maintains an air of mystery.

they are both greats of the modern era,
bowie had a bit more nous...
saw a wider world view...
still can't forgive him for the lord's prayer at the freddie mercury concert though....
bowie's 70's output is up there with prince's 80 output... it might possibly eclipse it. Hamburger, Hot Dog, Root Beer, Pussy

perhaps if prince was born in Wigan he might have been as cool as Bowie Hamburger, Hot Dog, Root Beer, Pussy

Strictly comparing them as musicians/entertainers, I go with Prince. I never was a big fan of Bowie...

I try to get into bowie, and have a bunch of the 70's albums. I like them when they're on, but never reach out to hear them.
I agree w/ Robert Christgau; he's really british, and a little too cerebral for my taste.
Has anyone heard the live version of "Tonight"? It's got Tina Turner on it; I think it's a song about being dead. It's awesome.

As much as i respect Bowie´s music i´d prefer Prince by far!
And btw, Bowie can´t sing imo.

Prince is to the 80's what Bowie was to the 70's....both amazing, absolutely no question!

Not trying to sway your opinion, but if you haven't already done so, you might like to treat yourself to 'Wild is the Wind' (1976), and 'I Know it's Gonna Happen Someday' (1993).

i didn't realise he'd covered 'I know it's gonna happen someday'... Hamburger, Hot Dog, Root Beer, Pussy

Hmmm, can't really compare to two, can you? maybe in some ways... yes.
I think Prince is definitely a better instrumentalist, of course.... Bowie is better visually and has better ideas for interesting music/visuals i guess. Bowie made some amazing and interesting albums in the last few years of his career *well, to me his career seems over now. sadly.
Love them both. tbh i will choice Prince because i loved him earlier than Bowie. but i do think Bowie is more fascinating and has a better personality it seems to me. down to earth but still mysterious. love it
Also bowie was one of the first, if not the first to reinvent himself every album..
Prince maybe technically has a better voice, but i think Bowie voice more unique and i prefer his voice more. [Edited 12/22/12 8:00am]

What does everyone think?
I am really getting deep into Bowie at the moment. Really digging his music as classing it as far more serious and cooler then prince can sometimes produce. Also he seems to be able to pull the live feeling of music too unlike prince in the studio. However my first love is Prince. And digging the new stuff as well as old. What does everyone think? _____ Hi we must be kindred spirits or something lol cos I have loved Prince since the early 80s and was always a Bowie fan (the singles) but recently I've been getting deep into his albums! I love Low and Station to Station and Alladin Sane and Hunky Dory are almost perfection and the more I listen the more I am feeling his music touches me more than even Prince's. Prince is a genius buy Bowie is something more if that were possible, I mean just listen to Breaking Glass and realise how many early 80s acts were influenced by it.

I like both ALOT and I would hate to have to choose. If I ABSOLUTLEY had to pick one it would be Bowie BUT I would rather have a steady mix of both in my arsenal

As much as I like both, I'll always have to say Prince.

I like lotsa Bowie music, but for me Prince is the only one who can do what he does. Prince is magnificent in so many areas of creativity, the open range he perceives and the infinite designs, arrangements and sounds he makes, there's really no comparison, imo. Prince is my most abosolute favorite of all times.....forever

Yeah Prince is naturally weird ..... Bowie is kind of playing weird in a arty sort of way! But Bowie music is on par with some of Princes best work, but of course the Purple one can pull of amazing stuff like SOTT, TRC etc.. I won't pick a side. They both have a ton of great songs that mean the world to me.
Although, if we're talking about who I'd rather have kidnap me and turn me into their tickle slave, probably Prince. ~ I'D BUY THAT FOR A DOLLAR ~

two genuine music giants....i would say that bowie's 70s run of albums comes very close to prince's 80s run of albums...but of the two...prince is obviously the greater musical talent overall...but there isnt much between them in other areas...
prince gets the nod...but not by much.. [Edited 12/29/12 16:51pm]
