New Prince song in Baz Lurhmann's GATSBY?

Of course the author is off base with the GIRL 6 ref, but it's interesting nonetheless.

Exclusive: Prince & Lady Gaga May Contribute New Songs To Baz Luhrmann's 'The Great Gatsby'

Eyebrows were raised when "The Great Gatsby" was removed from its late-December release, rescheduled for next spring. The Baz Luhrmann picture was just one of many Warner Bros. films possibly angling for Oscar nominations, but with a crowded slate, and the difficulty in securing a large percentage of 3D screens, it seemed doubtful that the F. Scott Fitzgerald would be a Christmas gift to viewers. But could it be that, with a new May 10, 2013 date, Luhrmann's film is using that time to spruce up the soundtrack?

Speaking with Adelaide Clemens during press rounds for "Silent Hill 3D: Revelation," she took a moment to discuss her role as Catherine in the Fitzgerald adaptation, revealing that "The Great Gatsby" may be getting some heavy-duty firepower added to its soundtrack. "They have some new music that's going to be added to the film," Clemens said. "Some pretty huge artists have approached Baz and are writing songs for the film, and I don't think Warner Bros. are going to turn down Prince and Lady Gaga knocking down your door." She confirmed she was referring to the Prince and the Lady Gaga, demurring, "I don't know if I'm allowed to say that."

While we'll have to wait and see if those artists make the final cut or deliver tracks in time, it does seem like the potential creative choice for someone like Luhrmann, a filmmaker with an audacious taste for contemporary pop music. Prince is no stranger to soundtracks, though he hasn't contributed to a film with new material since 1996's "Girl 6." However this would be the first film to feature wholly original Lady Gaga tunes. Could it possibly be a superstar collaboration? Clemens also made sure to tease further, ending her comments with "to name a few," suggesting perhaps many more popular artists would be providing the film with a pop-music soundscape.

So keep your ears open when "The Great Gatsby" hits in 2013.

Good thing. He should have been doing this much more often.

Although it might be a reworking of "girls and boys" cause
that would go down a treat at one of gatsby's parties lol

I want to be excited, but it's probably too early. So many empty promises! lol I agree that something Parade-esque would work well. Maybe even an unreleased gem from that era?? Also, I can't remember, but I think Baz Luhrmann used a version of When Doves Cry in his Romeo + Juliet movie.

They've updated the article since the OP posted it. The 'Girl 6' note was replaced with 'Happy Feet'.

I was just about to say that! What'sPrince gonna do? Rehash half of Parade without the French influence in it in favor of a swingers theme? lol Funny story actually, in my high school we had to make a fan soundtrack to Gatsby, and half my songs were from Parade. Sometimes It Snows In April, Under The Cherry Moon, and I Wonder U would kinda work in the movie...

Well hot and steamy Prince songs could certainly spice up the Gatsby decadent parties and a social song will contribute to the book theme of material emptiness and superficiality. He could do a deep beautiful ballad for Nick's reflective nature and a $ song for Daisy and Myrtle. 'My name is Tom and I'm an asshole' would do well for Mr Buchanan.

Yup good choice for Prince, please not Lady Gaga the whole way thru, this book is a classic. Plus it's all about filthy gains on bootlegged alcohol and our boy Prince knows all about bootlegging! razz

It's cool doing a Gatsby search on this forum just how many hits come back. I didn't realize the many connections orgers were making before this latest news came out. Similar imagery on their work, and similar themes within the material. Great music from the 20s too, Cole Porter, the Gershwins, Louis Armstrong, jazz and Broadway were very vibrant scenes... it will be interesting indeed to see what inspiration Prince might find in this project...

Hope this works out 4 Prince. I've always felt he could do movie scores & should be more involved in that. But why didn't the article mention Prince's involvement in the mega successful #1 Batman sountrack?

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

love4a1000yrs

The Great Gatsby with Mia Farrow and Robert Redford has always been a favorite movie of mine. A man, who had everything was in love with a woman, who was to be with another. He loved her so much that it didn't matter what he had to do... her happiness in a smile is all he looked for. His contentment in her being alive albeit she was, as aloof, as a new born lamb running through a field blind by the wolves, who looked on to use her through him. If only she had not driven drunk she would have never had to find somebody to blame and he took the blame and died to save her life. I cry everytime I watch it. What a classy in love man he was...I fall in love every time I watch it.

Take care, me.

If Prince does the entire soundtrack, I'll buy it. But if it is just one or two songs included as part of a various artists soundtrack, I'll leave it sitting in the store.
