'Free the slaves' benefit gig supported by Prince

Just saw on https://www.facebook.com/irockjazz

that Prince showed up as surprise act during supported Esperanza's concert to raise money for the "Free the slaves" project.

I really respect him for supporting that cause.

And of course Esperanza for organizing the concert.

In between the bitching over here, I think he also deserves some positivity for doing things like this.

Especially because it is a great cause:

langebleu - Mod edit: Thanks for spotting this - thread title modified in light of later thread comments - Prince donated a guitar and a sock for auction (but did not perform)

So he did Days of Wild...right?

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

And to lift your moods up a little bit more, here's another act of kindness.

Totally unrelated to anything, and in the wrong forum, but still posting it, just to spread some positivity over here biggrin

I don't know actually. Just read about it, and read up on the free the slaves project.

Actually didn't investigate his contribution yet.

You got more info?

Ummmm...no. When doing Days of Wild in the 90s, Prince included a call-and-response of "Free...the Slave."

Damn, I hate having to explain a joke. disbelief

It wasn't the lack of quality of the joke that caused the forced explanation. The lack of quality was on my behalf.

Will happen again, I'm afraid.

I don't see where anything says that he played guitar (or performed at all).

All it says on Facebook is:

"Guess who showed up to support Esperanza's Free the Slaves Concert tonight?"

Do you have any other info that says he performed?

Thanks,

~G

I must say that this is a tremendous cause.

Human trafficking is very real and happens in most every town, city, and country.

I haven't seen that either

I know most of the time he joins someone on stage it's last minute

but he could use his celeb to boost awareness of others shows and benefits

Isn't it Prince driving that truck? Probably in the right forum!

But the thread title and the original post probably now need a bit of editing. (now made additions to first post for clarity)

ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

Ah, I saw a picture of Prince playing the guitar at the Irockjazz feed. Therefore I thought he also played.

But the title is correct, right? He did support the benefit gig by donating a guitar and a sock.

Good to know he supported the cuase, because it really is well spend money!

I love the sock story. I wonder who bought that one Prince sock!

And what is he going to do with the other one? Poor lonely purple sock, just lost his partner. Well, it was for a good cause.

And he donated a guitar! Good work. Respect him for those kind of actions.

He might secretly celebrate Christmas, now that he has a spare sock. Don't Americans hang sock in front of the fireplace during Christmas?

He pretends to give a sock, but in reality he expects presents from Santa in the other one eek

Yes, slavery and human trafficking is very common, unfortunately.
