Prince-album of the month: Emancipation

I declare the month of march "Emancipation"-month on this forum. I listened to the set yesterday and was pleaseantly surprised! Emancipation is in fact a good album after all with many outstanding tracks. Of course, CD 2 is the strongest, but the other two discs have a lot of great stuff on them, too.

Show your love and listen to "Emancipation"-This is the jam of the year (or month, in fact)! music

Of course, CD #2 is absolutely the WEAKEST!
Put #3 in the player, use the other 2 as coasters and have a nice night.

You know what? I pulled this CD out the other day and I was pleasantly surprised too!! I had forgotten about all the great songs on this album.I was grooving to "Get Yo Groove On","In This Bed I Scream" and my favorite track on the album,"Emale".There are some cool songs here.

Btw,at the end of "Get Yo Groove On",some guy tries to get into a nightclub but they won't let him in.Does anyone know who this guy is? Is it Prince with his voice disguised?

In This Bed I Scream used to be on repeat on my CD player when this first came out!

My other favourites are Somebody's Somebody, Saviour and of course Dreamin' About You...I heart that song!

It's a great album - would have been pure gold at 2 discs! I agree with Choccie, disc 2 is the weakest, but does contain 2 of the strongest cuts, Emale and Joint2Joint. But then disc 3 has New World, Human Body, Face Down, Style, My Computer and The Love We Make - all fantastic!

Agree, imo #2 is the weakest, but it contains my favorite track: Joint2Joint.

***"Style"---don't like this song
***"Da Da Da"---lame
***"One Of Us" (I hate the idea of Prince doing remakes, especially a song that was fairly new when Prince covered it)
***"Face Down"---I know I'm in the minority, but I've never really cared for this song.
***"Emancipation"---the title track is surprisingly lame

Yeeeaaahh, EMANCIPATION was an incredible thing. And it grew... But 3Cds were too much to make it commercially successful I guess (although then distributed by Emi-Capitol). And it really differed a lot from "Come", "The Gold Experience", and "Chaos and Disorder".

Fave trax: cd 1: In this bed Eye scream
cd 2: Joint 2 joint
cd 3: My Computer

ballads: Eye can't make u love me
(as far as i remember did George Michael sing that 1, too, didn't he)
la,la,la means eye love u

Nowadays u get this 3cd-set really cheap in rec.stores if they have it. i mean, of course, where i live. in germany.
and i heard "the holy river" on the radio then relatively often for a new o(+> song
Get sexy sex, get funky at... The ORANGE Park - Funky President, people, it's bad!

Emancipation is great, but like someone said, it would have been a much better double-disc. I totally dug the whole package when it came out though and still groove 2 ‘get yo groove on’, ‘damned if I do’, ‘white mansion’, ‘in this bed…’, ‘the holy river’, ‘soul sanctuary’, ‘sleep around’ (this joint is GREAT), ‘my computer’ and more… there are loads of fine moments on this collection and I rate it highly!
It is interesting to read everyone’s opinions, because it always seemed to me that disc 1 was the most consistent and stand alone disc (although the cover of ‘I can’t make u love me’ is generally skipped by this listener and ‘mr. happy’ is kinda brainless).
Disc 2 is very chilled and mellow which is nice, but ‘joint 2 joint’ sticks out like a sore thumb and friend lover….’ does not stand up 2 repeated listenings…
Disc 3 is has some filler alright, those two tunes (‘face down’ and ‘da,da,da’ – ialways relate them in my head) are pretty embarrassing, even if they have some nice production touches, the cover of ‘one of us’ is nice but a bit pointless. Ok ‘face down’ isn’t that bad smile

All in all – good call on emancipation week, i'll rack up those dicss 2nite

Come, come now Dansa no no no! It is not all that bad. I used to skip Disc I all the time and stick to Discs II and III. There are keepers throughout the whole set and who's to say if Prince would have given us a two disc set, it would have been filled with all the songs that we can't stand (We Gets Up, Mr. Happy, Courtin' Time, etc.)

Disc II is the STRONGEST to me nod The mix is pretty complete. Discs II and III will keep you jammin' for quite a while!

That was Morris Hayes doing the voice work on "Get Yo Groove On". He was playing his 'Montalbo' character and is credited for so in the booklet.

So does anyone know who the "Kevin" was, of "...I won't do it like Kevin" in 'Damned If I Do'?

Montalbo (Mr. Hayes) is the one looking for the guy who was kicked out for not wearing the proper attire who's name was Juice (Prince).
