The thing about Prince and his past

The thing about Prince is this-

He seems to be very good at "forgetting" the past and cutting himself off from it. He is very forward thinking (gets bored with projects, promotions, tours easily, and is on to the next thing.)

He seems to think that we "fams" cn easily put the past in our pocket and move on. He says "If you came to get your Purple Rain on you in the wrong house..." However, how many of us would even be here if it wasn't for his past?

This whole time Prince has presented himself as being about sexual liberation, God, and music. That was HIS thing. He was THE sex guy. Now he is trying to "challenge" us to go against the sexual freedom idealism that he once stood for. It isn't about age. It's about his state of mind. As much as I want to say Prince 2003 is IT. Prince 1983 could kick his ass. In fact prince 1993 could kick Prince 2003's ass.

Prince has always been a great musician, but it was his attitude that made him "PRINCE".It was about him humping a satge as much as it was about him singing Love is God. If he has lost his attitude then he is what new Coke was to Coca Cola-just a sad imitation.

I hate to say a person cannot escape his/her past but when you've spent the better part of your career proving that you are THE sexiest MF, people will remember that even if you retire to the hills to read the bible.

Bottom line-Prince did such a good job showing us that he was a sex fiend/musician that no matter what he does now will erase that legacy/image. Don't believe me? Read the new SPIN magazine.

I think a lot of fans just feel that Prince was
closer to 'the truth' with Lovesexy than with
The Rainbow Children.

*** its called growing up...not forgetting.
Rockstars grow up too u now...I wouldnt wanna be where I was 15 yeas ago...Prince has grown up and Oh what a man he has become nod

He seems to think that we "fams" cn easily put the past in our pocket and move on. He says "If you came to get your Purple Rain on you in the wrong house..." However, how many of us would even be here if it wasn't for his past?

***but its not about "US" its about HIM...so dont take it personal...Prince is gonna do what Prince wants to do...its his life experience...his talent...his desire...If u like it, then enjoy it WITH him...if you cant dig it, then thats your choice, move on.

*** again, its not about "US"...dont take it personal...Prince has grown...he is doing his music from the heart...shareing what he has grown into...He is a real musician...doing his thang from the heart...not just giving us what he "thinks" we want but giving us his the real Him...I respect him for that.

Prince has always been a great musician, but it was his attitude that made him "PRINCE".It was about him humping a satge as much as it was about him singing Love is God. If he has lost his attitude then he is what new Coke was to Coca Cola-just a sad imitation.

***Prince still has his attitude...just maybe one that you dont agree with, but oh well...just like in the 80s, his controversal sex type stuff, others didnt agree with it...oh well so be it...and just like now the year of 2000...those who dont agree or get it...once again oh well, so be it...he still has the attitude of he is gonna do what he wants to do...its his Life, its his experience...so be it.

I hate to say a person cannot escape his/her past but when you've spent the better part of your career proving that you are THE sexiest MF, people will remember that even if you retire to the hills to read the bible.

***now he is a clean, God Loving, Bible reading, truth seeking, sexy MF who looks better today then he has ever looked before...I can dig it.

Bottom line-Prince did such a good job showing us that he was a sex fiend/musician that no matter what he does now will erase that legacy/image. Don't believe me? Read the new SPIN magazine.

***I dont believe anything is trying to be erased...Prince had to take the past steps in order to be the man he has become today...But if one is asking him to move backwards???...never.
Why would anyone want someone to move backwards???...

If that were entirely true, Howard Stern would have grown up a long time ago!

You must have missed the words: "sometimes", "many times."

Howard Stern is sticking with the shtick that makes him the most money because he has no other options.

You know... when people get older they sometimes get disillusioned with what they used to believe all their life. They then often start to believe in something contradictory.

Interesting observation.

I think the "sex" part was a manifestation of his "rebel" attitude. Back then, in addition to the sexual lyrics & onstage antics, he was also known to use a "cuss word" or 2,
or 50. Further, he combined different styles in music which had not been done before, nor done to such an interesting, "commercially successful" level.

Prince does have the ability to (selectively?) forget certain parts of his past (if I were him, I'd want to forget quite a bit of it too, at least in terms of professional or personal relationships that were ruined.)
Why he "forgets" certain things, 1 can certainly wonder.

I can relate to that, though because there are some things in my past that I've not only forgotten but eradicated-
like they never existed in the 1st place. That was done, essentially, because if those things are at all "negative" in nature, why keep them in your mind? 1 can "learn" some philosophical point from that event/situation, but once that point in sufficiently noted in your mind, why hold on to the rest of it?

Back to Prince:

Indeed, he will still be known- for some time to come-
for all of his, um earlier, "kinkier" work, which also happens to be his best work, in most cases. If Prince somehow manages to do 10 or more years of real
"good work"
in his present (JW-influnced) mentality, then maybe more people will also be able to distinguish "Prince today" from "83 Prince" etc.
I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..
