Kiss.
Every time I hear it the Tom Jones version splutters into my head and all I can think of is a sweaty Welshman wiping his forehead on still-warm panties.

That dude is foul....what do women see in him? His sweaty ass could fill a bucket faster than a hose. [Edited 11/29/12 5:41am]

I would define "acclaimed" as famous songs/albums that are praised by both critics and fans. That's why I didnt include Rainbow Children in my first post, simply because opinions are so divided on it, even tho' I completely agree with PurpleKnight on this one. Back to the critically acclaimed old stuff! I used to like Housequake, but these days, when I hear it, I'm like, where is the BASS?!?!?! How can you have a funk track with the bass just buried in the mix? Maybe remasters wouldn't be a bad idea, Princey?

International lover off the 1999
I think the high searing synth line is a little too much for me. and the cheesy airplane talk just knocks the tru emotion out of it. feels like a spoof.

But there're many bass-less funk songs by him. Maybe that was the characteristic he wanted for these songs. -Wtv u heard bout me is true,I change the rules n do what I wanna do.[Im n love w God,He's the only way - NOT!]We know we gotta die some day,so Im gon have fun evr MF night!Im gon 2 another life. How bout u?

It's fun, it's rockabilly. It's Prince showing how he could do a 50's song to play along with Little Richard and Chuck Berry in a ball. Same with When You Were Mine and Jack U Off. This is an essential part of his repertoire, since he showed he could excel in yet another genre. -Wtv u heard bout me is true,I change the rules n do what I wanna do.[Im n love w God,He's the only way - NOT!]We know we gotta die some day,so Im gon have fun evr MF night!Im gon 2 another life. How bout u?

Ok ok but that's because you associate another, poor version of the song to it. That's not fair for Prince's Kiss to put it on Tom Jones hot sweat! -Wtv u heard bout me is true,I change the rules n do what I wanna do.[Im n love w God,He's the only way - NOT!]We know we gotta die some day,so Im gon have fun evr MF night!Im gon 2 another life. How bout u?

I hate all acclaimed Prince songs,
- incl. these: Raspberry beret, If I Was Your Girlfriend, When Doves Cry, Purple Rain, Little Red Corvette, Pop Life, Sign O The Times, 1999, U Got The Look, I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man, Nothing Compares 2 U, Kiss, Anotherloverholenyohead, Thieves In The Temple, Gett Off
Oh these are soooo baaad:
I have heard them all to death, too much,
these Prince-songs are really doing nothing for me,
especially I believe Prince had no writing skills back then compared to albums like Musicology and Planet Earth.
But, actually, I only like these 3 Prince songs: Graffiti Bridge (the song), and of course: Jughead.
WHAT A CRAP THREAD, sorry. Nothing personally, just saying. Prince 4Ever.

I can't stand Thunder or any other song where he preofesses his love for god.

I can overlook 'em! In fact, in eleven years, I've never known what the fuck he's talking about on that record - I've never read the lyric sheet, and I hope I never find out what's written there. I just love the tunes!
But nothing on TRC is really 'acclaimed', so yeah, I'm gonna throw my lot in with the Batdance crowd - possibly the most embarrassing Prince hit single ever.

Dont forget that this song is now 30 years old.
Yes. Today it sounds cheesy. But fmd back then, you could make a girl cum just by having it playing in the background!

Oh both of you are kind of full of it. Such a terrible record and yet here you are. With Prince induced names at that.
I tell you if Radiohead started some black people this black people that etc Id throw out all the records and I damn sure wouldnt be on a website dedicated to their music.
So in essence either it isnt that bad as yall make it or you all are some obsessed and okay with anything he says as you claim others who praise TRC are.

There you go; it wasn't dogmatic. I don't connect with songs about any particular religion, but Christianity in itself isn't necessarily offensive. One of my favourite philosophers is Kierkegaard, a Christian, despite the fact that I self-identify as an atheist.
Where is the contradiction in enjoying Prince albums that are not offensive to what I believe? The only contradiction would lie in me financially supporting Prince, but I haven't bought anything related to Prince since TRC.
There is also no contradiction in talking about someone whose beliefs you find offensive unless you praise the person. I do not praise Prince Rogers Nelson. I praise the artistic brilliance of his older works.
Yes, and? The most inspiration and passion I've personally ever heard was a speech I watched on TV by Adolf Hitler. That doesn't mean I can enjoy the speech and just ignore the meaning of the content. No, I am not saying TRC is purely hateful. I am simply stating that the meaning of the content ought to matter. To deny that is superficial and ignorant. [Edited 11/29/12 21:14pm] The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

I don't pay attention to lyrics. Mostly as I can't hear properly what people are singing. So I listen to the voice as an instrument instead. I enjoy TRC. Upset by it? Don't be daft.

That's only if you really listen to the lyrics, which in 1/2 the songs he riddles out the lyrics that I don't try to hear it, only a few songs do I sorta know the lyrics:Rainbow Children, She Loves me 4 Me, Everywhere, the Feast(?) the rest is a mix of Princefables (most of that isn't even JW doctrine) there is prob more reference to Egyptology that JW add to that, that Prince created some kind of story with characters, I don't know what he is saying
So it's not superficial, ignorant only in that I have not searched out the lyrics
and his statement still stands:You can hear inspiration and passion on TRC, whereas later albums sound like they were just the result of Prince doing a job.
