With the exception of Musicology, whenever Prince has released albums on major record companies, the music usually sounds in step with the trends of contemporary music. In 1999, when he released Rave under the umbrella of Arista Records, the music sounded like he was using Clive Davis as an A&R to record that hit the teen market, rap market and pop market.

In 2006, when he released 3121, I liked that he was trying to build on the momentum of his popularity following the Musicology Tour, Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, talk show appearances, by hiring The Twinz, Tamar etc. But songs like "Incense And Candles" and "Black Sweat" sounded like he wanted airplay on Hot 97 and to be played between Usher and Chris Brown.

If he does release another album, independently or using the corporate machinery, I hope the music is sincere, well written and well crafted.

You are perfectly right but....wasn´t that also the case when he released 1999, Purple Rain and, to a lesser extent, SoTT? Sure, those albums sounded like such a unique amalgam of the synth sound that was going on back then that one might think he created his own sound, and he did, but he´s always been influenced by what was around when he released an album.

These days, he still soaks up current sounds, which is ok, but I wish he´d look around a bit more and look beyond the billboard charts. It´s not like ALL new music sucks...there´s still great music being made but you´re right, his new sounds resemble the current charts a bit too obviously.

There is a really strong chance that Prince will be very active this year.

I have many family trips that will eat up all my travel/concert money in 2013, so naturally, Prince will be very active.

I was at a party with Kiran a few weeks back, we have mutual friends. Sadly it was so dark in the bar that I didn't even realise she was there until after I got home. I woulda asked her a few questions, although I probably wouldn't have heard the answers as it was super loud there too!

the thing is with PRINCE he is "always" doing something, i heard a few years ago he was doing "new" music from his band members, so i dont really put too much stock in what people around him say, regardless of their position because of the way he just "is".
