when prince focuses on something it gives him bouts of creativity. that especially applies to his religious episodes. jw inspired the rainbow children, it focused his mind zealously, and it is the only work of genius since lovesexy, again inspired by religion, albeit a more spiritual, unrestricting vision. there ain't no more works of coffee-spluttering genius in him anymore, he's entrenched in middle of the road banality. his stuff now just washes over you whereas the good stuff sticks to you like shit. i wait and hope to be proven wrong but i'm not holding my breath. don't play me...i'm over 30 and i DO smoke weed....

The Prince feeling is never gone for me ! It may wax and wane a bit. I mean this IS the same guy who had the balls to release “Glam Slam” as a single after “Alphabet Street”. At the time I just felt like it was suicide for the album, but that was Prince being Prince and doing the fascinating and sometimes frustrating things that drive you crazy. But the feeling remains because he is such a COMPLETE artist and you never know when that brilliance will present itself. I for one do not want to miss it when it does.
I just recently discovered a cousin of mines likes Prince…who knew. I found myself rummaging through my collection for versions of songs he had not heard. Again the feeling was back! It is just too much great music to EVER write him off.

Yes, it is gone but not so much because of anything Prince has or hasn't done. Entertainment in general is just not that big of a deal to me at this stage in life. As JustErin said, "but then I grew up", I suppose. I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

I dunno maybe some of us have been following too closely over the years. I consider myself a Prince fan but I didn't see every video or hear every song after it was released... We like what we like and if we can still appreciate what we fell in love with without expecting every song and every image to be in the likeness of that moment of perfection we probably would not be asking ourselves this question. Not to say that I am stuck in one moment of Prince music magic. I've merely found that discovering what I missed during my media blackout is exciting because I am following the music that evolved while I was asleep.

The feeling will never die 4 me, despite the string of frustratingly brain-dead business choices that P has made over the past 20 years. I got hooked in 1982 by "Delirious" and yesterday, when "Rock And Roll Love Affair" arrived at my place all the way from Switzerland, I was just as excited as I was in 1982 -- "Rock And Roll Love Affair" (Original Extended Mix) makes me weak-kneed. I keep my interest high by focussing on his craft only, and not worrying about his personal life and whether he's still a mainstream artist or not. Viva Prince! That is so sad that you have limited your appreciation of music so much. I know we are on a popstar's site but surely people have wider taste than just pop music? I know there are lots here that have. If the only glass you ever look at is a mirror you'll never see the world outside the window.
