It is the kind of song that'll work better in concert than on record. In other words, why doesn't he play it?

i have to agree with this. one of the few recent songs that i did not feel a.t. a.l.l.
perhaps if he'd sing the lead on it, but even then, it's just "meh" all the way imo.
there's probably 10 songs in his entire catalogue that i hear and just go
"ugh, no please just hit skip" and this is one of them and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

"The music's slammin, but it's about these words..."
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I must also agree.. and I liked almost all of Planet Earth. This song was really the only weak spot to me.

The woman is foine!!! She's number one with a bullet!
When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Sounds VERY familiar!
All the fairweather-fans on here will claim now that it's just a coincidence, as ususal
There are way too many coincidences like this in Princes career, if you ask me....

Love this track. It just came on shuffle yesterday and I thought about how it's always a pleasure when it does. This one stomps! "That's when stars collide. When there's space for what u want, and ur heart is open wide."

I like this song too - it is bouncy and happy. I love the tempo of it. The video is fun too. Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜

I LOVE IT...... anything "house" sounding from Prince I love which is rare......
Does he staes this is for Jersey in the beginning, I swear he says that...oh well if he doesn't it received well in the house scene here. "A Man Can't Ride Your Back Unless It's Bent" MLK 4/3/68

I like it a lot.
In some sense it reminds of some of the mid-90s work that had him share lead vocals ("Return Of The Bump Squad"), but the disco beat makes it more playful than anything he did at the time. I don't know how the people on this site can dislike a song with such a catchy melody. I find it hard to believe the dislike stems from anything else than the disco elements. Each to their own though.
It's certainly not house.

Does he ever play that song anymore? Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

I like it but I have to be in the mood for it. Not a bad song just too much shelby in it. Purple Music is my drug and I'm jonesin!!!!!

I associate this song with waiting for Prince to play an after show gig.
Dr. John played. After three songs the roadies took Prince's the telecaster off the stage. Dr. John finished his set and said Prince would be out in a minute.
Half hour later the DJ put Chelsea Rodgers on.
The crowd loved it and danced and danced (the first time it was played) by the third time the DJ played it - we all knew Prince wasn't coming and just layed on the floor until we were kicked out of indigo2 and had to wait outside for the tube to start.
Sad song for me now. | |

Maybe the version you have is not, but I fortunately had someone remix the song and extend into a house mix, the bass line alone made it very easy. "A Man Can't Ride Your Back Unless It's Bent" MLK 4/3/68

Definitely the best song on the dreary "Planet Earth" album and one of his best jams of the 2000s. It's funky and it's got that sassy falsetto that lets you know instantly it's "Prince". Hell, if it were up to me, he'd be required to sing every song in falsetto. Andy is a four letter word.

I don't hear any house in it either. What I'm hearing is disco influenced and hell, disco should be the goal that every artist should strive to achieve. What made R&B in general of the early 1980s so great is because a lot of it was still bleeding off of disco's "death". The further music got away from disco throughout the years, the worse it became. Andy is a four letter word.
