It's alright enough apart from that jarring stop/start part that just does not work.

Prince took it back to disco with this one. Its a "MasterPiece" that uses Shelby's vocals well which no one is mentioning...

I like it a lot.

In some sense it reminds of some of the mid-90s work that had him share lead vocals ("Return Of The Bump Squad"), but the disco beat makes it more playful than anything he did at the time. I don't know how the people on this site can dislike a song with such a catchy melody. I find it hard to believe the dislike stems from anything else than the disco elements. Each to their own though.

It's certainly not house.

I don't hear any house in it either. What I'm hearing is disco influenced and hell, disco should be the goal that every artist should strive to achieve. lol What made R&B in general of the early 1980s so great is because a lot of it was still bleeding off of disco's "death". The further music got away from disco throughout the years, the worse it became. lol

biggrin sometimes a girl needs her disco fizz once in a while wink

Sounds VERY familiar! wink

All the fairweather-fans on here will claim now that it's just a coincidence, as ususal rolleyes

There are way too many coincidences like this in Princes career, if you ask me....

yeah, p is definitely borrowing/copying/paying homage/stealing the groove from this song. he's starting to approach led zeppelin levels here. and i'm a HUGE fan anyway. but he should give credit where its due with co-writing credits or something.
