What went wrong with Prince & Manuela? I have to admit, I don't like her but I was listening to Musicology yesterday and the songs he wrote about her seemed to show that he REALLY loved and trusted her, even more so than Mayte. I know he and Mayte were the perfect couple- I agree with that- but on the Musicology album he speaks about being able to be himself with Manuela and not worrying about what comes out of her mouth or her telling his secrets. So why did they break up? Does anyone know?

she probaly listened to that album and packed her bags!

You're talking about TRC, not Musicology.
And that's about all that's interesting about this thread. The music.
Why would anyone care or even know what exactly happened?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yes, TRC , but also in Musicology he talks about her like I've never heard him talk about anyone else in a song, the other songs about girls were more about sexual attraction type of thing. Why would anyone care or know? Are you kidding? People on here care about his hair, his clothes, speculate on if he were to out a new album, what would it be called? So, I care. Because as I was listening to it, I thought, "What exactly went down with them?" and I know some orger knows......

When they showed her and Mayte having brunch on Hollywood Ex-wives it was like a great unexpected crossover like Homer and Fred Flintstone having a beer and watching the game, or Alexis Colby and Sue Ellen having a catfight

Yeah, I agree. It was TOO weird.

P.S. - And, YES, I do realize this is old news- I just do wonder when I listen to certain albums and she seems to have such trust and love from him that every time I listen to TRC or Musicology, I have to wonder what went down?

Slight subject change. Was it not Manuela who sort of ran things at NPGMC? That went tits up not long before/after/whatever they split.

Go find 10 people you know that have been through a divorce. Ask them why they got divorced.
By the time you're done, you will have your answer. Whether you know it or not.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I guess no one here really knows, but they just have to have something to say. If don't have any real answers then just don't respond already (shit).

Maybe you should take your own advice.

On the one hand I totally agree with you because I can´t stand gossip and speculations and assumptions but on the other hand I think this is a Prince fan site and where else should these questions be discussed other than here? Remember that even the better biographies out there discuss when, under what circumstances, and about whom certain songs were written, and rightfully so, because many of us want to know about the history and background of a song, for instance what inspired him to write "The Beautiful Ones", or how he wrote and later erased "Wally" after he broke up with Susannah, or that he wrote some really heartfelt lyrics when he was with Susannah and after their breakup ( Adore, Forever In My Life), or how his friendship/relationship with Jill Jones inspired him to write she´s always in my hair.
I can understand where the original poster is coming from but I disagree with her about Manuela being the source for inspired songs. On the contrary, I think she´s one of the few partners who didn´t really lead to a lot of songs written about her.The few that he DID write about or for her are ok, but in my opinion nowhere near as intimate, heartfelt or deep as some of the many other songs inspired by or dedicated to his partners.
We´d all soak up those questions or tidbits of info if they were part of a new book written by one of the better authors on Prince ( like, for instance, Per Nielsen.....I really enjoyed all his books so far and think the way he merged the private stuff with the art and business is a great read, especially those interviews with Susan Rogers etc.) but when orgers ponder on similar questions we often react a bit negatively. An artist speaks through his art and his experiences are an important part of his art, right? " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Fair enough, and I understand your point completely.
The thing is, there is a huge difference between a good biography based on quotes and other facts, and discussing Prince's private life with fellow orgers (which is pure speculation and therefore completely irrelevant, in my opinion). The latter is simply gossip.

Actually...they pulled the plug on the site about a week before the news of their split hit the papers. I've always theorized that Prince shut it down because he did not care to see people commenting on his failed marriage in U Smell Us. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. Perhaps Mani slapped a Cease and Desist order on Prince since it was her "baby" and she didn't want to see him run it into the ground, protecting her intellectual property? "Talking rebound, born of despair"
I've met people who had a rebound boy/girlfriend before, but Mani was a rebound marriage lol.
1979-1992 Prince is a huge player and get a lot of ass. Often times people who have a lot of lovers don't have a serious emotional connection with any ONE of the people they've been with, however, when they fall in love, they tend to fall REALLY hard....
1993-1995: Prince gets a little older, and sees Mayte as a life partner, he really wants to start a family and live as a husband/father. Given his own terrible upbringing, Prince wants to be there for his wife/kid 100% and give them the type of love he never felt. Marriage and pregnancy follow.
1996-1997 With the death of his child Prince and Mayte grow apart. What was supposed to be an emotional cornerstone for Prince's life is completely gone, he a Mayte divorce. Prince is LOST he doesn't know what he's doing or where he's going.
1998-99 Prince hooks up with aging funkster/zany cult member Larry Graham. All of LG's spiritual mumbo jumbo makes sense to someone with a giant gaping hole in their heart. Prince becomes a hardcore JW. While religion has always interested Prince, this conversion has had little to do with spirituality and everything to do with finding something to fill the void left over
2000-2001 Wanting to further follow the JW doctrine/ keep trying to get away from his failed marrage/ father role, Prince marries the first Latina Barbie Doll JW he can find (mani).
2002-2006 Given that Prince mainly married her to stop thinking about his previous wife, Their marrage lasts about as long as a good pet hamster. They divorce.
2007-2010 Prince travels the world performing shows and banging his twin back up dancers (it's a tough life, but SOMEONE has to do it)
2011-2012 Prince meets Andy Allo and decides he's going to start dating people 1/3 of his age instead of 1/2 his age
These are the broad strokes, but pretty accurate. Although 'Call My Name' is a great and under rated track IMO, Mani was just a "rebound born of despair" "Prince doesn't have verbal diarrhea, he has studio diarrhea...." Allen Leeds

Although 'Call My Name' is a great and under rated track IMO, Mani was just a "rebound born of despair" I think he married Mayte because he was expected to, since she had been with him since she was 16ish, kind of like Elvis and Priscilla. I think Mani would have appealed as she was fresh, something new and not associated with the tragic events that had previously happened, more in love with the illusion than the actual person. Next question! good to have you back imago! I think someone else answered in an old thread asking the same question: Prince completed sufficient funding for Gamillah Inc. Since we're on the topic of Manuela, I was reading through some ancient threads recently, and there was one in which someone posted that Manuela replied to someone on FB that "3121" was written while they had a home at 3121 Antelo Place, Bel Air, Los Angeles, and that parts of the 3121 movie were shot there (so, while they were married). That comedian on the Jimmy Kimmel show mentioned that he had been to Prince's house in Bel Air, so it seems he really did have a house in Bel Air before 2005/6. You can look up the address and you can get real estate info plus staged photos of the property. It's worth about $11 million now, 4 bedroom, 7 bath, pool, palm trees, really swanky. Totally unrelated, I also found that Prince donated $250,000 to American Ballet Theater (Misty's company) in Feb 2011. http://nymag.com/arts/cla...ndex1.html

Next question! A tighter cut off than Tom Cruise!! Speaking of Misty, have you seen her ballet calendar for 2013? http://www.huffingtonpost...21368.html You know you are in love, when you cannot fall asleep because your reality is finally better than your dreams - Dr Seuss

Oooh, thanks for that link for the calendar. She's absolutely gorgeous in it. Unlike many other ballerinas, she's got womanly curves. She also can do those dancer poses. Makes for great photos.
