Black Sweat is good, and the 3121 title track is good when played live..

forget about the rest of the album.

One of my least fave Prince albums.

A lot of people like it. It's an average set of pop/R&B-lite tunes ticking all the usual boxes for Prince's post-Warners comeback albums. If you like Emancipation, Rave, Muscicology, MPLSound, Planet Earth or 20Ten - this one should be for you.

I like it, Black Sweat is the weakest track closely followed by Incense and Candles. Fury, 3121 and The Word are excellent.

This sums it up very well.

The title track is still one of his best efforts in a long time imo.

I like it! It's old fashioned stripped-down Prince-funk again after years of jazzy expirementations that led nowhere.
Love and Beautiful Loved & Blessed are also worth mentioning.
When this one came out, it was the first time in years that I actually rushed to the store to get it. Then came Planet Earth and my love vor P was gone again. His albums have been hit or miss lately, but 3121 is a hit.

That's exactly what my problem is, I don't like any of these albums. lol

3121 is the best track, would be fabulous, if the beat wasn't borrowed from DOW.

Sounds like mostly great reviews! GREAT! Now I'm really excited to get it! I'm trying to go back and get the CD's I didn't bother with- now I need to get 20ten and Planet Earth. I had originally written off The Rainbow Children as awful but went back ten years later and listened and freakin LOVE LOVE it - now wondering what else I've missed out on?

thanks for the feedback!

2 me Rainbow Children stands miles apart from his 2000's albums, it's the most cohesive and full of that classic Prince sound but in the 2000s, I love the music 4 some reason 3121 always felt like Rock hard In a Funky Place my fav live version of 3121 was at the Macey's 7.7.2007 show

I think the version used in the video with the female background singers and the louder guitar solo would have worked better also.

Prince's best album of the 2000's. It contains a handful of decent tracks and a few really good ones. The biggest strength of this album is that it doesn't contain too many stinkers (there are no valentinas). Front to back it's a modern sounding album you could play for almost anyone.

When it came out I remember thinking it was such a return to form for Prince after the cash grab that was mu$icology. Was hoping it was a step in the right direction, but it ended up just being a random good album.

Princes best album since "The Rainbow Children" and still better than the stuff that came after it.
I LOVE the title track, gives me the same feeling songs like "Now" or "Days Of Wild" from TGE give me. Also a great live track of course. The rest of the album is a mixed affair with "The Dance", "Te Amo Corazon" (yes it´s cheesy, but I really dig it), "Fury" and "Love" being the stand out tracks. I never really understood the love that "Black Sweat" gets, not a very strong track for me. And: The horns on "Get On The Boat" are funky!!!

For me, the first four tracks and "The Dance" are top-shelf. "Beautiful, Loved and Blessed" is a nice effort too.

It's a good album.

Nowhere near the greatness of his 80s output, but probably my favorite of the post-mellinium stuff.

I think of it sort of as a Diamonds & Pearls mixed with a small amount of Gold Experience, minus most of the hip hop elements. (most). It's more subdued than the afore mentioned albums, but not too much more.

It's sort of like Lotus Flower in sound too. But where Lotus Flower is the hippie chic, 3121 is her slutty best friend.

It's a much more interesting album than some of his other recent ones. More "light and shade", more interesting compositions, better lyrics.

A bit of JW, but generally listenable ! And tracks like Satisfied and Black Sweat are actually good !! Shock wink

While I feel like the album gets weaker as it goes on, for sure this was Prince's closest post 2000 effort toward what could be considered a "Modern" album.

I really feel like this one doesn't get it's due on the Org
