the Lovesexy Aftershows 1988-1989

including appearances (non-concert) & rehearsals

"Oh, he's a workaholic, no question," Sheila says, adding that his cure for the traditional post-performance blues is to "keep playing. We'll end up going to a club and playing for another three hours. It's that much fun."

Such impromptu jams have startled audiences at nearly every stop of the Lovesexy tour, which is expected to play through February.

I hate to sound like Archie Bunker, but...damn those were the days!

Free of all religious hatred and division, he took us on a spiritual journey, never to be matched!!! Not even by the man himself.

Just like Elvis with "Aloha from Hawaii," MJ on the "Bad" tour...Prince peaked with Lovesexy!

I'm pretty sure there aren't any that we don't know about, since thankfully most of his performances have been well documented. As far as the Japan tour, at that point in the tour in early 1989, it seems like I heard he was well paid by some Japanese businessman to do those shows. I do know he performed those gigs on a regular stage, and not in the round.

Although I've seen nearly 80 Prince shows in my lifetime, I'm still bummed that I didn't get to see a Lovesexy aftershow (especially the Paisley Park one!).

When was the Fine Line Music Cafe show in Minneapolis? I don't think this is one that I've ever known about.

I believe it was Atlanta GA that I have some kind of aftershow during the Lovesexy era, it's definately not SOTT it's like 8 songs

Yeah, I read that after the US leg he wanted to get to work on either the Batman or UTCM film and his manager told him he had to finish up the Japan tour or their would be trouble(of course)

yeah those Lovesexy shows are legend

Why top 3. What's no.1?

This is the only look with longer hair that doesn't let him look too gay in my book.

lol if u r concerned about Prince looking "gay" then i dont know what 2 say

in the 1980s look at any rock band ie Twisted Sister Posion etc I think they were beyond Princes look in the 1980s and ive never heard people worried about them looking "gay"

idk

Queer can be a word that doesnt have 2 be too directly connected 2 peoples sexual orientation

I prefer Alternative

You are right. If you look at Prince in the 80s and compare him with other bands look, he looked nothing but gay. In fact he looked like a sex god, in other words the real deal, da pimp. However, the long hair look is the best with the tight belt he was wearing, and those earrings. Sexy mutha!

Can't remember if you started a thread about Parade erea`? I would love too see what your no. 1 preferred look is!

Lovesexy incorporated everything from the Prince era - SOTT which is one reason I love it

Parade clothing was very chic 2 me

this suite he wore during the Parade era he converted for the Lovesexy era

it was cool how during the SOTT/Lovesexy era it seemed he used a lot of stuff from the Parade period like that, and the Kiss jacket the Black cloud a few times "aftershows"

Fine Line Cafe show 9.28.1988

Fine Line Cafe 1988 was not really a Prince show. He turned up there with Sheila and Eric to jam with Dr. Mambo's Combo.

Also, there was no Lovesexy aftershow in Atlanta.

There was actually 8 shows there not 5.

He played 8 shows at 5 different venues, maybe that is what you are thinking of?

No aftershows were played in Japan.

A lot of it was shot in darkness with just using other club lights for visuals

or spotlights on Prince and the band.

Other times in light or in red light, gives of some interesting images
