Maroon 5 gets deep about Purple Rain and Prince's influence on them!

apologize if this was already posted

J.Carmichael: "The album starts with 'Let's Go Crazy' and when you hear the sound of the organ and his gospel sermon begins, you really get sucked into a whole new world....The album 'Purple Rain' is as enigmatic as Prince himself...it's Hendrix, it's James Brown, it's outer space, it's church, it's sex, it's heavy metal...but at the end of the day it's just Prince at his absolute best. The reason Prince is an inspiration to me is he is obviously writing from his heart, and somehow he is able to take his personal feelings, turn them into poetry and present them in a way that is both accessible and weird at the same time."

A. Levine: "[Purple Rain] is such a fearless record! The music is just completely limitless and unselfconscious about what it is...Basically I think of Prince like a God in another realm...I mean of all the people who might be aliens or angels...if we found out that he was not of this earth, I would not be that surprised."

Maroon 5 in my opinion is one of very few bands who's cover of 'Purple Rain' touches me much like Muse's cover of Sign O' The Times touches me. Do U guys dig Maroon 5? I dig their honesty in the interview. Not many musicians have the humility to refer to other musicians as 'God'. I made bold what struck me.

Maroon 5 has been making music Prince could have in his sleep in recent years, but is he doing that?

I love Maroon 5. I laughed at the comment that they wouldnt be surprised if he was an alien or an angel- he even refers to himself as the Purple Yoda. Prince is definitely on another plane of existence.

Have u had your + sign today?

I think Maroon 5 is the only pop act I can stand these days razz. Their songs have that Prince vibe to it but still has it's own personality of sorts. I actually really liked their cover of Kiss, which reminded me of the original acoustic version Prince did. It's faily obvious that Maroon 5 heard the demo for Kiss before they recorded their cover!

Purple is the color of my heart,
Bruised from you leaving me.

I have to agree....I do however think Songs About Jane is a fantastic album.

Their recent stuff just sucks ass.

Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!

So are you putting down Maroon 5 for making music that Prince can do in his sleep, or are you complimenting them for doing that? Or are you criticising Prince for ...? Don't understand your comment.

He said, "...a God" not "God". That's not blasphemous.

I was a little high

I wish some of maroon's hits a few years ago were Prince's, and even some of their material from last year. I can hear the influence of the M sound on them, but I'm not feeing Prince's music from the last several years, hadn't since 3121

Maroon 5 are great.

They got ribbed and knocked by many, but at least they're out there, doing their thing, writing their own songs and playing all their own instruments - which let's face it, these days is seemingly becoming an increasingly rare commodity.

First off, I'm an adult just like you so refrain from calling me boo boo or any silly names and I'll treat you like a real person. I'm here not because I idolize a person, I just like his music . Notice how your response to that quote can be interpreted as idolatry, you need to be worried about losing your own persona in people who don't care about you.

thanks for clarification.

I like some of Maroon 5's stuff, especially from Songs about Jane, but as you said while high, these are songs P could write in his sleep - they're simple and poppy. Interesting that you say you'd be happy if Prince wrote simple pop songs like these. It seemed the detractors of his music from the last decade expect more than a simple pop tune.

well Prince is known for anything but simplicity...his melodies were so catchy at one point, but they weren't just songs anyone could create, there was so much depth and creativity to the music, and unpredictability, but it was led by a good melody. He doesn't do that anymore while Maroon 5 does. But of course I'm a bigger Prince fan.

I have enough people that care about me. So don't scold me like I'm a child. I pray to God everyday & serve the Lord on Sundays. I know who I worship very well. Do not not judge me. I only answer to one person Jesus Jehovah....

This is what that PR era music always feels like, it's timeless, they get it, that was a Prince's sound
