I was NOT impressed at all with his performance.. I am not crazy about the song.. and I do NOT like this 70's vibe he has going... He looks like a hippy that was frozen and then de thawed... the glasses are stupid... the fro just doesn't do it for him.. He is such a handsome guy... The tailored clothes and tight fitting stuff is so much better on him. I wish he'd dumb this Andy chick..... I don't find that she does ANYTHING for him.. OR the band.. And I agree with the other post.. his bands use to be SOOO tight.. now they are just a bunch of mixed matched people... I really think Prince needs to sit down and really re invent his group.. Get a mix like the Revolution was.. Or the First NPG... Just my say....................

^ I agree with Fonkyman too... Sad to admit it, but the perfomance didn't do anything for me either, and Prince did look a little like those old ladies at the slots. All he needs is a fanny pack, visor hat, and a motorized scooter...

I was so excited to see Prince on Jimmy Kimmel. When Jimmy said he would be performing his new single, I was deflated. UGH... really? That was a lame performance. At the end of the show, Prince started performing "The Dance Electirc" though!! I wanted to see MORE of that. Kimmel said that it would be online, but it wasn't. Just R&R Love Affair... double lame!! I so want to like that song... but Damn... if a song doesn't have chorus, it's hard to like... and the lyrics... bleah. Hopfully, Prince is starting to release some more of that vintage vault music. The Dance Electric would have been a better first single than R&R, IMHO... it actually works for this radio market, even though it was written 30 years ago...

Thank u! You're right Dance Electric would have been better first single. And even been better to perform as the main song/played first on Kimmelplayed instead of RRLA. And reading through most posts here, seem like RRLA is getting less than half even liking it and at the most a even split of likes/dislikes!

If the pants are yellow, he doesn't have to worry as much about his blacks not matching. Which means he finally heard me. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I agree that the song started off well enough but Prince's vocals really hurt the performance. Also LOL at Andy and her unplugged, inaudible acoustic. This performance did nothing to promote her album or Prince as a live performer.

The guests beforehand talked some great Prince stories. The band looked and sounded awesome. Andy is a good fashion influence on him, and he seems to be opening up musically again. I look forward to the fruits of their future collaborations. "So fierce U look 2night, the brightest star pales 2 Ur sex..."

Prince did a good performance and he seemed excited to be there. Now there's both a good studio version and live version of Rock & Roll Love Affair.

People are really stretching here to find something not to like. Prince finally did something conventional with this song(released it to radio, promoted it on tv, releasing it as a single & all in a reasonable timeframe) which may or may not lead up to a new CD. So of course as usual let's get on him for his clothes and his hair.
Nice performance. The song works well live and he looks like he's having a great time. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

...I don't get the complains about his vocals. RnR affair is not even the type of song that requires "singing". 90% of the song is spoken words and he kept the energy level pretty consistent throughout the performance - if anything he actually sounded more vibrant towards the end. And about his look - I mean if you're just expressing how much you don't like the whole 70's look he's got going personally, it's fine, but his pants color for example has absolutely nothing to do with his image for their "album promotion" some of you seem so worried about. He's not a teenage style icon like Katy Perry or Rihanna. He could've worn brown pants or something more subtle or even something in fashion and no one and I do mean no one would've given a damn. People tune in to see Prince just because it's Prince. 99% people who seen the show will only talk about how much they like (...or dislike) his new single.

Prince Has Torrid 'Rock & Roll Love Affair' on 'Kimmel'
October 24, 2012 10:45 AM
The Jimmy Kimmel Live studio couldn't hope to contain Prince, so when the rock great stopped by the show last night, he performed to a large, enthusiastic crowd on the outside stage. Dressed in orange-yellow pants and a wildly patterned shirt with impressive dangling tassels, Prince played his new single "Rock & Roll Love Affair" with absolute joy, sneaking in a few grins as he stomped through the funky, horn-blaring track. He calls it an affair, but almost 35 years after his first album, it might be a little more serious than that. will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

Some of the WAAAAAY negative OVER reactions to this performance make me grin.
It is almost like some of you/us haven't lived through some cringe inducing moments of the 90's.
Remember "Dinner With Delores" on Letterman and The Today show? "Rock N Roll Love Affair" is very chill, breezy, and mellow like that. The difference is that nowaday he is not running off the stage after yelling "Free TLC", sporting a blonde dye job, nor does he have to be introduced as "The Artist". Some of you are pessimistic for the sake of being so. [Edited 10/24/12 16:10pm] "New Power slide...."

Man, I really miss Prince. I know people change, move on or whatever, but where is the bite? Where is the grit? Where is the funk? As much as I want to like that song (and believe me I do), it just sounds so damn corny and so Vegas. Please lose the horn section. This guy used to pave his own way and now he seems to be completely lost. I think back to when he said "you may have lost me, but I found myself", I think it's the other way around man. I mean I'm still sticking by you, but I have to say I am hoping you have a big surprise for me than this light rock shit you have been pumping lately.

Wow some people around here love to over analyze. R&R is a poppy, upbeat single which is harmless and I thought the performance was solid. Yes not ground breaking but what is anymore. Prince was a pioneer for decades and released some of the greatest singles, albums and live performances of all time, so who gives a shit now at his age as long as he is still writing, performing and is free. Would people be happier if he was a total recluse and hid in Paisley Park and never performed or released music to the masses again ? He is better live now than ever and he looks happy and relaxed. So if Andy is part of the reason then I am all for supporting her, plus People Pleaser is damn funky. As Skywalker said we have been through the weird and wonderful Prince of the 90's and some of that stuff was down right embarrassing. Prince has a worldwide fan base and he is content with that. He is not out to compete against Taylor Swift and Ne-Yo and nor do I want him to. So for me I am happy he has a new single, video, tv performances etc. The guy is a musical legend and nothing he does moving forward will ever change that.
I just can't believe all the things people say !
