It was OK. I agree with the poster that said Prince off-key, or very close to it. I think he was about a half-step flat most of the time.

And his guitar wasn't working half the time on "RnR Love Affair". Or perhaps, just not turned up enough. You could hear the jangly E chord pretty well, but you couldn't hear the lower parts on TV.

I just watched the video from Kimmel's site, and the guitar sound was a little better but still not up to par.

You're clearly deaf or you need to get yourself a new sound system if you don't hear Prince guitar playing clearly throughout this performance.

Moreover he is not off-key at all. He is singing lower than usual and the way he controls his breathing is wonderful.

I waited all day yesterday with nothing but excitement to watch PRINCE perform live on Jimmy Kimmel and I was not disappointed! It was great to see PRINCE jamming "Rock and Roll Love Affair" and it was even better to see him so happy! He was having a great time and it was obvious. The NPG was tight and in top form.

I think the song is fantastic! It's a rocking, funky pop gem and to hear it live was just wonderful!

A big thanks to PRINCE for the killer live performance and much love from a happy fan here in Dallas, TX!

Long Live PRINCE and the NPG! prince

Probably get flamed for saying but I didn't like RnR Love Affair live. I personally like the studio version better. Maybe it was the mix? His guitar barely came thru the tv. It sucks we only got 1 and 1/4 of a song before the broadcast was over.

Just didn't do it for me. I'm just over the whole cabaret live sound. It's ok live in person but to playback and watch is not so great. For example I went to the United Center and HOB on the 25th and saw two great shows. (still on a purple high) Hearing tracks and seeing video clips from those shows is not so great. The atmosphere and energy does not translate well. I totally understand playing the same songs for 30+ years has got to be boring for him. On the flip side, he re-invents some of his hits to the point where other than lyrics they're not even the same song or vibe that made them great. LOL, I guess lyrics aren't quite the same either. I just keep hoping he'll become bored trying to redo everything and get back to playing his songs closer to original form. Kinda funny how he dogs today's artists saying the make their music on a computer and things start to get ugly when they have to play live. Well honestly I've not seen or heard Prince play anything close to the original in years.

Not sure what he's doing band wise. I noticed a different keyboard and guitar player. No Joshua though. Didn't see Morris either. Are these still just guest players? Or is this a transition period? Hannah Ford is so fine but she's no John Blackwell. She comes off to me as more of a heavy player than someone with mad skills. Reminds me a bit of Cora. I'd really hate to see John go.

Poor show.

Very lacklustre vocals from Prince.

Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!

John has not gone anywhere he was there during Andy's set & switched places with Hannah boo biggrin during Prince's mini concert jam.. By the way eye loved hearing the band rehearse I get off on that kinda stuff. Its worth it to me than seeing the whole both per4mances.They rehearsed songs that wasn't evn played last night..Andy's npg band is so funky..But Prince didn't let Andy out of his sight. giggle

They took all of us out of line waiting to see Prince & whisked us inside the studio to witness the funky jam with Andy. That eye think is not going to air until Dec after Andy's mega debut Prince produced "MasterPiece" comes out...

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

Compare this boring performance with his stellar appearance on SNL performing "Fury", or any of all the other great tv-performances.

What happened!??!

I only dislike his appearance on BET performing "The Christ" more than that snoozefest on Jimmy Kimmel.

When fanatics try to argue it gets funny.....

The snippet of the "Dance Electric" performance was a hundred times better than "RNR Love Affair".

The song kicked off and it sounded great, energy levels up, then Prince sang those first couple of lines and energy of the audience seemed to tangibly deflate. I think it is just that style of singing in this song (and actually many others like it from recent years) where Prince's vocal is rather flat and lacking in punch.

It picked up, and The Dance Electric sounded like it was going to be great too (although still suffering from the same vocals deflation).

I actually enjoyed the performance, but I have to admit that your observation is spot on. I think that R&R Affair is definitely a song that has to grow on you, so it is difficult to take it in at first listen. Prince fans had been listening to it for the last month, so we were happy to hear that it sounds decent live.

I was there. The Dance Electric was the highlight for me. He could've played The Dance Electric, and left the stage, and I would've been happy. Thanks Prince!!!! The crowd was hyped though most didn't know The Dance Electric. So yeah, I got to hear that live, & that was a wish of mine. cool So worth it. wink

Preach it. Amen. And u could tell Prince couldn't hear either.
Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Right. Snipers, load your weapons.

That has to be one of the worst 'performances' I've seen or heard from him. Apart from the fact that Arse & arse affair isn't worth the 2 minutes he prolly took to write it, he's surrounded himself with muppets. If that band was on a pub stage I'd prolly walk out. Glad people had a good time and all that but, well...

I was hoping they might've worked on some choreography. AA to stage front, P kicks her off stage. Exit stage left, that type of thing. She's a real star alright. The kind of 'chocolate star' that sits between the butt cheeks.

On a more serious note. I don't know if he was blaming the sound or anything on R&R but he's sounding a cats fart away from singing off key to me, not in a good way either and I'm being generous. Sounds like he's either bored, or he's playing it down to make AA sound better?

Awful. Rain is wet, sugar is sweet, Andys shite leave her in the street.

you blowed my boy up with that review/assessment! eek lol
