Okay, Im kind of pissed at Prince and WB In my cold clamy hands I hold the MJ Bad 25 box. Tons of extras (dvd of Bad concert, disc of outtakes and demos, live cd disc, and remastered disc). And I never thought this era was that great.
I should have in my hands a remaster box set of 1999..or the very least, Dirty Mind, the album where Prince became Prince, the freak etc.
Keep all the rehearsals of unreleased fan favs.....all the excellent reworkings of songs in a new classic way such as Little Red Corvette.....all the new 'dos' clothes, band members, new proteges and their projects...the online bloggers as media mothpieces
But please get me a box set made that has Prince, or Prine and The Revolution on the shelves..hell we now have a few box sets by MJ, U2, Radiohead for god sakes....Ridley Scott even went back an made an Alien prequel (I know he doesnt call it that but theres also folks who think the moonlanding was faked)....I mean damn!
In the things that are ridiculous in this world ..isnt one of the greatest (still living at that) artist to ever hump a stage, pull his leg behind his back, jack u off, spew his faux jizz (that sounds like a bside..'Faux Jizz') on an audience, give head to his guitar probably better than some ladies give it, show seasoned vets how its actually done, not having a box set or at least a remastered release in stores in the new millenium ten years plus into it the biggest wtf in arts and entertainment?

I know Ive used that line on others but I've been kind of patient lol. Plus you dont know how it feels/felt to have Bad 25 in your hands...knowin that it should have been Rain, Sign, 1999 etc a long time ago. "Climb in my fur."

indeed. it's long overdue. remasters need to be in the stores between now and five years or it's simply too late.
it's already pushing it. but if we have to wait more than 5 years from now, who will there be left to even care?
such a shame.
teasing us with one off performances of vault 'classics', so he knows that we love those songs and long for them to be released.
when he started to pepper his sets with some of them since 2008 i thought he might have been going through them himself again, whilst looking for stuff to remaster so it could be included on extended remastered album releases.
who knows. perhaps. he did say he already had some of his mastertapes back, didn't he?
so what is he waiting for?
like those posters for sale at the concerts of him standing in front of the controversy cover or the parade artwork.
teasing, teasing, teasing.
the world and it's mother now have extended remasters released. every single vault in the history of recorded music seems to have been poured onto bonus discs and most of them are just sub par, or plain bad.
now prince's vault material. there's another story. it isn't just good enough to release on a deluxe set with each corresponding album, it would be a crime not to release those tracks.
i agree with rdhull: keep all the other stuff, just focus on those expanded remasters for a year or two. please.

"Faux Jizz"... When I read that, I imagined a much dirtier version of Lavaux o_O.
I know what you mean though, WB or Prince should serious think about a Purple Rain box set. I'd love a little documentary by Spike Lee about the making of the album (hey, he did it for Bad 25, and aren't they like friendlyish with each other? I mean Prince was the soundtrack to Girl 6, and he gave 2 songs for Bamboozled...), the B-Sides, some unreleased stuff (like Electric Intercourse studio), you know stuff like that. And if Prince wants to lose some of his pride, he could go on SNL one day and do a sketch about The Kid and Morris Day still fighting over Appollonia in a retirement home funk off... I'm completely serious by the way. I would pay good money to see any of this happen. Purple is the color of my heart,

Those concert posters had me thinking he was up to something regarding remasters etc too. And these rehearsals of older songs seem just like a stfu or a dangled carrot to come to the recent concert playing in your town.
Thing of it is, is that these conerts do not seem to have a purpose. There's no new cd project (Allo doesn't count because nobody except maybe 3000 p org website fans know who the hell she is ultimately) so it's not like he is trying to make some artistic statment this go round.
So while MJ has the third remastered set of his seminal work released, Im dealing with my musical hero putting out material/touring, that in the scheme of things, does not 'seem' to matter at this moment.
Remasters is going to be my new mantra/whine taking place of 'namecheck' lol. "Climb in my fur."

That's not acceptable to me.
I know Prince wants to have a Miles Davis-like catalogue in stores (which in ten ears will be a moot theme since we wont have any record stores of merit) but even Miles has tons of box sets, remasters, and such, and in his lifetime. From each label he worked with. I know that taking the flight to semi independence would change the way we received his material, what we received, and how things would end up being packaged or marketed. But if this absence of legacy was to be collateral damage in all of this..I dont know. It may have been worth it to Prince in the long run (or not) but to the die hard audience: ........ exactly, i mean just what is he thinking lately? even for us on the org it's hard to keep track of what is being 'released' and where and how long it will be up or how often it will swing by on an obscure internet radiostation.
i couldn't possibly begin to list the things that have been posted to facebook accounts of the npg members the last 3 years or so, or the songs that have popped up here or there or on websites (montreux, vikings etc).
none of which, is for sale anywhere
i doubt even he knows what the heck he's thrown out there the last two years
and yet, his old albums and his vault material seems to keep even prince himself in some sort of stronghold.
he doesn't simply dismiss it. he keeps pulling songs out. reworking them or playing them live.
so he' revisiting most of that material that we know and a lot that we've never heard before on a regular basis, i'm sure.
yet, to what purpose?
i wish he'd at least say one way or the other if he's at all interested in releasing remasters in the near future. all this smoke and mirrors and mysterie shit is getting rather old right about now. we're all grown ass people, we can handle it. simply a yes or a no would suffice so we could just pack up and move on or stay put for a bit longer.
new music would be fine too. like, an actual album. anything would be better than to have to pick n mix your new prince material from an array of varying quality sources on the net, like some demented easter egg run.
but remasters, or word on them first.
people should start making banners to take to concerts and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Prince has it all figured out. He doesn't have to exert the effort to preserve his legacy (remasters, vault...) because in 200 years when all of us that so desperately want this are dust, he and his commercial catalogue will have already been solidified as being one of the most influential and successful entities/bodies of work of all time; regardless of whether or not he pleases US now.

My guess is that after spending most of his career flooding the market with new releases, he went into the opposite direction and decided to make himself extremely scarce, so as to create frustration and anticipation for eventual remasters.
When does PR reverts back to him? He's waiting for that one. If that's not the one then I guess he'll wait until Parade or SOTT reverts back.
Stubborn SOBiatch.

Nobody is going to be here in 200 years.
And the ridiculousness of it as I mentioned is that every dang artists of note has remasters and box sets...RIGHT NOW lol.
Im currently downloading Bad 25..the live disc thats accompanied with the dvd of the Wembley concert..and it has a disc of outtakes, and a remastered disc of the regular album
What Im supposed to be downloading is 1999 cd remaster, the homecoming live cd, and the 1982 disc of outtakes in great quality....and watching the 1999 tour dvd.....
Prince has everything since he first jerked off recorded..and yet...MJ won?

I'm also a big MJ fan and off course I bought the BAD25-set. also the thriller 25-set. thing is, MJ recycled his material too much I think. during the years (even when he was still alive) he released packages and best off's and remastered editions of thriller and bad 3 or 4 times. I actually own the songs from Thriller and Bad 4 or 5 times. so this is not what we want from prince. we're still waiting on the first release.

AllĂ´. Yep, I still come here to read sometime, hoping to read a surprising headline like "Prince issues first remastered record". I still reside in beautiful Toronto, in Canada, land of free healthcare and delicious poutine. Can't have one without the other -- a cardiovascual fact.
If you see Prince, please yell at him for me a little.

I've given up on Prince remasters. It ain't gonna happen and frankly,I'm tired of waiting.Thankfully, most of my other favorite artists have remastered their catalogs. But still,it's a shame that Prince doesn't see the importance in upgrading/reissuing his amazing catalog. Most of the CDs that are available have crappy sound quality (Dirty Mind,Controversy,SOTT,etc). When CDs are remastered and bonus stuff is included,it gives fans the opportunity to celebrate that album/era...it's like re-living that era all over again!
How many of us wouldn't lose our minds if he released a '1999' 2-CD Deluxe Edition?!

You know what would be cool? A remaster of 'Controversy' with a bonus DVD of 'The Second Coming'! That film probably isn't completely finished, but just give us what you got...we'll take it
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
The difference is that Prince is an artist.
He probably trys to look forward instead of back as much as possible to endure new things. I fully support that and would much prefer new albums etc, but i also agree that his back catalogue needs remastering with possibly a 2nd disc of outtakes and B-Sides.
However, that's probably as far as it will go. Attaching something like the 2nd Coming to Controversy, an item that's never been released and is probably a depiction of Prince that Prince is not pleased with, may not be applicable to him....and understandably. It would literally be included just for our greed and that's not usually an artists way, as much as i'd like to see it.
He's an artist and visionary, they tend to live in the now and be working on giving the world something new. This could also explain why he performs his hits differently all the time. Too cater to the masses, but also his new visions. This leads me to think we'll just have a remastered back catalogue with complimentary extra tracks at best if at all (whilst he's still here with us).
But ultimately...this is my observation, Prince is brilliantly unpredictable.

Thats the one I have. Im happy but yet pissed. I should have all that, except a 1999 one, or a Controversy one, or a Rain one. One of the most prolific artsist of our times has no box set remasters..what is wrong with this picture? Nothhg so far..but if you are steady touring for some low rent protege etc etc..then it becomes a problem. In the two years without a proper release, one would think its due to a nice relevant project. A cd and theme tour for that cd, a movie, a project of some sort..or legacy restoration that is akin to this picture set you posted and that I have. But nada..we get another protege cd..kind of.
Now maybe in two months a Prince cd will come out that will knock the socks off me feet...but do I/we really need that now? "Climb in my fur."

Nah, mit wouldn't be The Second Coming released... ever..but maybe the Houston filmed Controversy concert. The one where Anne Christian is also performed.
A cd of outtakes or demos for it.....a cd of the live concert..the original cd remastered...and the dvd of the concert.

I'm not talkng/worried about Best Of's and how many have been released by MJ. At least he still has this box set released..and a box set done right.
And having Thriller remastered released three or four times makes Princes situation seem worse. Three to four releases of the same set remastered and The Kid doesn't even have ONE.
Tomds you just made me madder..Im turning into the Hull(K) but purple, not green.

Oh, not this shit again.
Oh, not this shit again.
You just contradicted yourself. You say you'd prefer new albums but then you agree that his catalogue needs remastering with outtakes and b-sides. So in essence you agree with what Im stating.
Nobody expects The Second Coming to be released. But a cd of the Controversy tour is feasible/doable. And even though it being a non factor in a box set, you alluding it to it being included just for our greed..I dont really know wtf to say. ..except so what? or you damn right? You make it sound like an audience of an artist wanting material from said artist is wrong? Are you a coffee drinker? Because if so it seems like you have not had your coffee yet.
Oh, not this shit again.
I think its because the hits are close to 30 years old.
Ok, thanks.
Brilliantly unpredictable.....where once that would be worthy of "copy, print, an save," now it seems like a pejorative. "Climb in my fur."
