"Acknowledge Me" proves Prince doesn't watch football The lyric that proves P doesn't watch or, if he does watch, doesn't understand football is heard in the Come remix "18 and Over" song "Acknowledge Me" lyrics: "It's 4th and goal and I ain't about to punt" Dude, 4th and goal you either go for the touchdown, or you kick a field goal. Punts are for when you are out of scoring range. Fucking rookie.

Spanky out I do not understand football, but based on what you wrote, it seems that Prince DOES know football - at 4th and goal you go for the touchdown, you don't punt because you are in range. The lyric says he's NOT going to punt; he's going for it!

SHIT!!! Ok, I'll admit it is "Acknowledge Me" and I fucked that up. But I DID consider this point that he could be correct so to speak because he says he isn't about to punt, BUT, where I convinced myself he was either clueless about football or "punt" was easier to say than just "kick a field goal" was when I realized that punting wouldn't even come to mind to a coach or player at 4th and goal. That's like saying "it's fourth quarter in a basketball game with 1 second left and I'm at half court and I ain't about to dunk". It's like, well yes that's true but that's cause there is no way you would consider dunking as you would not have time. So yes you don't punt at 4th and goal but you also would not even consider it. So yes, I fucked up on the song it came from, but yes Prince is still a rookie re: football americano. I wish u heaven

^^ but think about it Spanky - let's put it into real, plain language instead of the football language. He's telling you a story, there's this hot girl all juicy underneath him and he's all hard and ready, and he ain't about to stop/mess it up now! You've never heard anyone talk like that before? Of course stopping now is the furthest thing from his mind, and the stupidest thing you can do, and he is emphasizing that exact point.

Dude, you are missing the point of the lyric. You are saying that no coach in his right mind would punt on 4th and goal. Like, it would never be an option, because scoring is so definitely going to happen.
That is EXACTLY what Prince is saying. He isn't even considering not scoring aka punting aka giving up the ball. Get it? [Edited 11/19/12 7:25am] "New Power slide...."

Arguably, "it's fourth and one, and I ain't about to punt" is a more accurate lyric, but even then you'd need to know where you are on the field. But this is all besides the point. I think the point is that "punt" has the informal/slang meaning of giving up, so saying "kick a field goal" would make no sense. The fourth and goal line adds another nuance, which is he's about to score, and score of course has the infornal/slang meaning of sex. So basically, Prince's lyric is a somewhat clever way of saying I'm about to have sex with you, and I ain't about to stop (just because it's that time of the month). Interesting, I just convinced myself that the lyric is actually pretty good. That was WAAAYY more analysis than this lyric probably deserves. "Love & honesty, peace & harmony"

Have they won a title since Prince cursed them with that song?
I think Brett Favre is still looking for him. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

You know what, maybe he was just trying to be too clever, trying to combine about to score with not about to give up. I obviously like football a lot. "Love & honesty, peace & harmony"

I have no clue what american football is about, a very minor sport here in Europe.
However I love real football (soccer if you like ?),
And: I love "Acknowledge Me" deeply.
Great song, and a great era, 1993-1995. Prince 4Ever.
