Prince gets a double dose of stink eye from Rolling Stone.

Rolling Stone aint feeling P's new sound. Noted Prince hater Chuck Eddy slams RnR Affair:

http://www.rollingstone.c...r-20120925

Eddy has always hated P's sound, saying he peaked after Dirty Mind, so I'd ignore him, but the review of his gig in Chicago is painfully honest:

http://www.rollingstone.c...o-20120925

Thank you Jesus that I missed these gigs. When does he not play massive guitar? He lets Shelby and the rest do all the singing but pays himself more. His songs are stale. When he starts stinking live it's time to call it a day.

You gotta earn that afro bitch! lol shakes head.

All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!

Why praise a concert with no singing or guitar? Would they like him lip synching and having a puppet show as well? lol

The Purple One graces Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart for the first time since 1994, as 'RNR Affair' bows at No. 22.

i think in the us chart system, they calculate sales and airplay together.

so he could chart if the song is on many stations, many times. and then

it wouldn't even have to be available to the public for purchase.

it would be a typical prince thing to brag about in his interviews to get a

point across. "i had a top 10 hit this year and yet no one could buy that

song, that's how we roll these days. funk owned, collectively grown and

conspicuously absent from all commercial outlets"

biggrin

True, this is very weird! What kinda chart is this? Maybe it's manipulated, Prince paying!

well he probably is paying for the airplay, yes. that's how it works these days, isn't it?

it's strange that he would tho. last time he 'bought' a hit was TMBGITW.

the question would be: why the hell would he pay for airplay now?

i can see how iheartradio would play it since he did them a solid and performed at the

festival. but have other stations picked it up as well?

Presumably it's charted on airplay, how else.

As for the review, I've read tons of bad reviews from attendees, it was a duff show by all accounts - shit happens. Worse than the sound and technical difficulties, I just hope it's not a sign of things to come in terms of backing singers doing most of the work.

These days radio charts mean nothing. They are usually bought that is airplay by radio pr companys that are being paid by record labels. It's manipulated, that's why you hear shit on the radio 24/7.

Prince paid for this, for the promotion to get airplay. Charts mean bullshit. His song sucks, and he's sporting shit protegees and degrading NPG.

Rant over! zipped

To get promotion, he's not charting anymore, he gotta promote, so why would he not pay for airplay? Heck even Pink is paying to get airplay across nations and countries, and she's mainstream. When was the last time anybody heard Prince's new song on radio?

How else? Well here in the UK we have this crazy system where the chart is made up of records that have actually been sold. I know, mental right!

oh i know, but what the heck is he promoting? his shows? is that it? but surely there are other

ways to promote a concert than through an unknown song on internet radio?

i wish he would promote his albums this way then, instead of releasing them and losing all his

interest in them the day after. then blaming any and everyone when they don't chart high or

shift enough numbers.

but, probably, the return on an album isn't high enough and thus not interesting, where as the

return on some airplay through a couple of sold out gigs is likely much more profitable and it's

'easy' money, in that it's his own circus, no pressing records, no distribution, no illegal dl's etc.

ok, i think i get it now biggrin

Not all charts tho. There are different charts that are made of sale of singles/albums etc..and none of them is independent.

I was at the monday night show in Chicago. Thoroughly disappointed. Terrible show at the Untied Center (an hour for an encore) and full on fan disrepect at the HOB. What this little dude needs to rememeber is he is on his way to 60, this kind of disregard and disrepect for his fans will find him fanless with a AARP card, a non-matching granimal outfit and some baby toddler shoes performing in some club as a has-been to a drunk, passive audience. I don't care who you are I deserve and demand respect I work too hard for my money and my time is valuable. I choose to like him but there are other artists that I can devote my time and money to. #hoodwinkedbamboozledtook

Didn't matter what he does at the other shows the ppl at the monday night show are still out. He can say sorry to every audience after this, it does not make it up to the audience that suffered it.

I know how you feel as I experienced the same. The weird thing is tho, he won't even remember what happened on Monday by next week, cause he does so many shows and there are just somany people that go to his shows!

In other words, he doesn't give a f*** and you are screwed by Uncle Scrooge. There is no money back guaranty!

Picture below is the Vault, that he's talking about. No music just $ lol

That's right we do have that in the UK, but since RNR Affair was not a commercial physical release anywhere, presumably it has charted on airplay, how else?! wink

People who went to HOB on Monday night were offered a free ticket to tonight's main show.

All the reviews (here, on facebook and in the media) that I've seen from last night's show were stellar, saying he barely put down the guitar and that the solos were blistering. Those who went both nights said all is forgiven, etc...

One review - http://consequenceofsound...blues-925/

Of course, yes, it's very unfortunate for those who went to the United Center on Monday night, and I understand if they still need to vent, but my gosh, people (who weren't even at either show) can be so vicious and judgemental. He's apologised several times, offered to make it up to the HOB attendees and absolutely killed it at the next concert, so I'm not sure what more you expect.
