He's not into white male singers capable of getting more pussy than he can.

Yes, I agree. I've figured he resents the way Timberlake has mimicked his sound on record and in concert, you know, the same way Prince has always tried to be a facsimile of James Brown. I'm sure he disdains The-Dream, Kevin Michael, and Frank Ocean too. That same old contradictory mentality. "You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup...Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." - Bruce Lee

I don't blame anyone for not liking justin timberlake's music. He rubs me the wrong way, being so self satisfied, while anything he can do someone else can do better.
Or maybe it's that he gets more pussy.
Or maybe it's his lyrics in 'give it to me':
"Could you speak up and stop mumbling, I don't think you came in clear
Or maybe it was trash talk between guys. Or just a joke.

This might have been a diss towards prince but nothing was really confirmed .. (seemed like it though)
also check out a quote from jt about prince years later..
“I look at people like Prince, who, to me, is the greatest musician who has ever lived. He keeps producing, keeps writing, keeps making unbelievable music – all because he’s true to his passion…Everything he says, every note he sings, it’s just like, man, that guy is so far ahead of the rest of us. One of my best experiences onstage was at his house during a party.”
that shows how much of a fan he is.. [Edited 10/1/12 17:05pm]

It's a joke, Mike Scott played in JT's band. That's all the reference was about, nothing else, no hate. You can play in his band, "that's alright".

I think it's probably an inside joke between Prince and Mike and has more to do with mike "overplaying" on some songs since he rejoined Prince on tour. I read recently ... http://flcourier.com/2012...of-prince/ ( The hardest thing with musicians,” he explains to a visitor to his Paisley Park recording studio, “is getting them not to play. I don't necessarily think it had anything to do with Prince not liking timberfake. I think that remark is just a peek inside Prince's remarkable sense of humor. Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

I like a lot of timberlake's music although it's because I'm into Timbaland and care about him more, I can understand why Prince feels this way because timberlake has a lot of influences and never properly acknolwedges them, which is a slap in the face to those before him who worked their asses off.

I don't know, since he went solo, I think Timberlake always made it very apparent that he studies and attempts to emulate Prince's music. He's never really played that down like his rips of other artists he's blatantly copied. "You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup...Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." - Bruce Lee

Did Bootsy Collins leave James Brown's group to play with Donnie Osmond? I don't think so.
Ultimately, Justin Timberlake is a pretender. He is celebrity/pop star that works with the right people. That's it. But , that's all is needed for some.
After Mickey Mouse Club, he semi fronted a completely manufactured boy band that had about as much talent as New Kids on the Block. Then, he Madonna'd his way through his solo years by crafting an image based on basic talent. Mostly, he mimicked Michael Jackson worse than Usher (and somewhat Prince sonically).
It is very telling that JT wants be an actor more than a "musician". It's because he's a popstar that's more interested in being a celebrity...Prince smells a phony and gives his guitar player shit for it.

When Prince introduced his band members one by one on Wednesday night....ahh I just loved it, I remember him giving props to shelby for touring with D'angelo and then he turns to Mike Scott and says"...And this guy played for Justin Timberlake!! Aww Naaaww" LMFAO, gotta love Prince! And then he goes "but we love him" =D Tension between the two? lol Everyone knows no matter what Justin may have tried to say in that song 'give it to me', at the end of the day, he nearly worships Prince as a musician and has frequently referred to him as one of his biggest influences. Yeah Prince doesn't seem to like Justin that much, but that's actually what I like about him. I mean if Prince were to give props to every singer who says he/she is a fan of Prince's...I wouldn't respect him as much you know? I like how he can be candid like that.
And really when he says things like that in a concert...it's just part of his showmanship and it's not supposed to be taken too seriously. (Though Prince was already rolling his eyes at Mike Scott for "overplaying" from rehearsal according to Greg Kot lol). Before he started introducing the band members, he said something like, how it was a great time for music back in the day (or something along the line). So that Mike Scott/Justin Timberlake thing really made everyone laugh out loud, as the majority of the audience was in the age range(30~40) who lived through that great time of music P was talking about.... It was probably one of the most humorous moments of the night.

It's funny that you brought this up purpleshadow. I thought that it was connected to JT's type of music, but then the next morning I saw that JT had opened the Ryder Cup (also in Chicago) on the 27th, which was the day after Prince said that. Could JT have been at the concert that night and Prince was just making a joke? He could have been hanging back stage and no one would have known.

This shit is funny....and perhaps quite true.
He's also had a chockful of hits and took some of his band members away from him.

Why not? His "music" sucks. It is a product primaily produced by other people. He is just the image that is frontin' it.
