I hope I am not sounding insulting, really. This fro just doesn't become you and it takes something away from you. Now from the standpoint of you just wearing your hair "natural", that's cool, I'm not knocking that. Just shape it up a little differently, whoever did it did not do a good job for you and the shape of your face. I know it sounds a bit juvenile and some may say it's none of my business, but sometimes people around you may not want to tell you, but if I were your friend or family member, I'd tell you. I wore a fro for years and love it, but they just did not do a good job shaping yours to your face this time. Hope I'm not offending anyone. I jus love ya, I will accept you any way you want to be, just thought if no one ever told you, you should just have someone else shape your fro differently.

Love ya (as a performer of course) and see you in Chicago!!

clapping I couldn't agree more. This will be my sister's first Prince show and I'm a little concerned that she won't get the whole Prince package. I know it's primarily about the music, but it's nice to look up and see someone sexy playing the music. The fro can work if shaped better. I need to see Prince look fly. He's been perfection on stage for 30-some-odd-years. I just pray he doesn't break this trend in Chicago.

Bravo... Bravo~~~~

This thread is pure comedy. I have never seen an OP's post so dreadfully misunderstood. All she said was that the fro needs some shape. Now you have folks talking about she's not accepting of Black hair; she doesn't understand kinky/curly textures. Saying that people who dislike Prince's fro are likened to Gabby Douglas hair critics. Accusing folks of only being into Prince's look and not his music...STOP IT! If you are going to rebut a post, rebut it on the actual statement made in the post. All of those other comments are mean and unnecessary.

For example, a more appropriate rebuttal would be, "I love his hair. I hope he doesn't change it for the concerts, but comes on stage as misshapen as ever!" or even "I think this is a silly post. I don't care what his hair looks like when he gets on stage." I can rock with those types of responses. But all of this psychoanalyzing babble is just too much.

I truly cannot understand why folks here can't disagree with someone without making a character judgment about that person. If she doesn't like Prince's hair, it doesn't mean she doean't like/understand Black hair. It simply means she just doesn't like his hair.

I do think he may change it anyway

I prefer the look of the photos from the video of him and Andy vs the Views look, the look from the View looked like a wig or doesn't work with Prince's 'wardrobe'

I agree OldFriends4Sale. I actually like his fro here. I think here it's a bit more tapered on the sides and fits his features better. When I saw these pics I thought he looked quite handsome.

lol At the end of the day...it's Prince's hair, not ours, and he will apparently do with it whatever he wants, regardless if any of us liked/disliked how his hair looked on The View or whether we disagree/agree with the OP's suggestions about his hair/or if some of us don't like the opinions of another orger's on the topic, and that includes me. None of us are being forced to shove another's opinion down our throats and choke on it. Peace.

Of course you disagree. You're the one who started the thread.

When I wrote that rebuttal to your comment, it isn't because it matters to Prince- or anyone else- what your hair looks like. It was to show you the audacity of making a PSA telling him to fix his hair for the concerts.

The sadness comes from the fact that you started a separate thread. We were already discussing it on the "View" thread, but you needed another one to tell him to get his fro fixed.

Never haven't spoken about any other hair look doesn't matter... (and you had no comment about those braids with ribbons from Rave? hmm lol)

Sooo... is his hair that important?

Instead of a decent show, let's have him sit on stage in a barber chair, and Tabitha Coffey can give him tips on styling and care. Maybe the NPG will play something in the background...

Yes, whatever. If I choose to write my thoughts the way I wish, that is my preogative. No need to be upset, I just said the hair is part of his package, along with his music. People say they don't like some of his songs and it's no problem, if a person doesn't like the way is shaped and expresses it, so what. He's been in the business long enough and has thick enough skin, I doubt if he really cares what anyone thinks, nor does he have time to read some of the silly threads, including mine.

What if you got this note from Prince?

To Fan: Please change your hair for the concerts

I hope I am not sounding insulting, really. This [however your hair is] just doesn't become you and it takes something away from you. Now from the standpoint of you just wearing your hair [whatever way you want] that's cool, I'm not knocking that. Just [insert change] a little differently, whoever did it did not do a good job for you and the shape of your face.

I know it sounds a bit juvenile and some may say it's none of my business, but sometimes people around you may not want to tell you, but if I were your friend or family member, I'd tell you.

I wore [your style] for years and love it, but they just did not do a good job shaping yours to your face this time. Hope I'm not offending anyone. I jus love ya, I will accept you any way you want to be. In fact, I hope you are not wearing it to the concert, just thought if no one ever told you, I should let you know before you come to the United Center looking like that.

Love ya (as a fan of course) and see you when I get to Chicago.

Get my point? wink

If I got a letter...from Prince...that said that I would think: "Damn, If Prince noticed my hair and was so devestated about how it looked that he took the time to write a letter to me about that then my hair must really be crucial." No...but seriously though I like his hair although I can kind of see where the OP is coming from. It's kind of like Prince has built such an image for himself that when people go and see him they have high ideals of what he should look, act, seem like etc.

Anyway, that imaginary letter had me dying of laughter. smile

Let me also add that wanting a performer to look good is not at all shallow. Record companies spend millions on music artists to improve their image so that the masses can receive them easier. The truth is that whether we like to admit it or not, we are all drawn to a pleasing aesthetic. Thus, having palatable appearance does make that song sound just a little better. Prince always understood this and that's why he's always been intentional with his look.

Yes, but come on...hair doesn't write music, neither does it perform on stage by itself. lol How many musicians/artists you see on stage performing worried about if a strand of their hair is out of place? Ridiculous. lol I mean if Jimi Hendrix, stopped playing in the middle of a song, to say "Let me check my hair y'all" I don't think he'd would have ever finish playing his song. I'm sure this won't be the first time your sister has seen a man with his natural grain of hair worn the way he likes, whether it is the way she likes it or not.

Just go and have fun and enjoy the music and let the man rock his 'fro, if that's what he wants to do. Prince changes up all the time anyway, so whether he's wearing his hair in one style one day, and decides to change up the next, his hair won't take anything away from his 30-year plus music history, because today and the next day, he'll still be Prince. There's just so much more in this world to be concerned and focus on in the world, than to worry about how someone chooses to wear their hair. Hope you and your sis enjoy the show. smile

[Edited 9/18/12 19:57pm]

I am saying! I ain't trying to be mean or anything, but does it really matter that his hair is like this? I think sometimes fans, can become too 'fanatical'. Who do you think you are, to suggest what someone else does to their hair??

AS you mentioned above; Prince changes up all the time. That is how he works. Why worry about hair like that? I mean, this is the part, where I will politely and humorously say...

"SHUT UP ALREADY......................D A M N!"

This is what he did for the Australia shows as well. P had the 'fro for the promo samurai pic, then straightened it out for the concerts.

P just took a hot comb and flat iron to the 'fro. lol I think the 'fro will be back. wink He'll wash it, & not press it out. He will go back and forth like he's done since Australia. The 'fro looked much better when he performed with Mary.
