WTF?

He is an old rock star.

He makes music. Sound. Emotions.

What does his hair, if any, matter?

If he'd have the Sinead O'Connor look it would still be cool.

Fortunately, Prince has more balls than his fans.

We've seen him in nite-club photos aux naturel and with just shorter hair. I hope he's growing it so he can comb it out like Andy Allo. cool

At least he isn't wearing a meat wig

But yeah, not the best look for Prince. True... he has always been daring, and willing to play with his look/fashion, but he has had high/low points in that department. I don't know if it's the hair so much as that ensemble. If he had snuck up behind Appollonia with that look he had on The View, she probably would have jumped in fright (and then slapped him).

Dear Prince,
Just letting u know that we all don't think like the OP states RE your hair. I actually love it on u & I think it's a rockin' hairdo. But then again, u could wear a paper bag over ur head & I'd still think ur gorgeous.
Keep ur chin up - ur still a sexy mf.
Love,
Funky
pray Peace in the House of Prince.

I disagree, I don't think it's a sad thread at all. I am not a public persona so I doubt Prince would care how I wore my hair. Prince's hair has ALWAYS been a part of his whole package, every CD had a different hair style, different clothing, different look, that's also what I love about him. He made his hair a part of the package that goes with his music. He's had tons of hairstyles, this is the only one I've ever made any comment on openly. Why is this thread sad when so so many others have taken notice to his hairstyle. He's always been so creative, I am so used to him being ahead of the game with his hair styles, I was surprised he was not to a lot of people this time. And it wasn't because of the fact he's wearing a fro, the person who did it just didn't do a good job, that's all. I doubt if anyone close to him would tell him that. As I said when I started the thread, sometimes it takes someone to tell you something you otherwise wouldn't know. As I said, I love his music and his performances no matter what, even if he was bald, but I guess I was used to seeing his big, rockin fro when he was younger, it was shaped to the 9's!!

Of course you disagree. You're the one who started the thread.

When I wrote that rebuttal to your comment, it isn't because it matters to Prince- or anyone else- what your hair looks like. It was to show you the audacity of making a PSA telling him to fix his hair for the concerts.

The sadness comes from the fact that you started a separate thread. We were already discussing it on the "View" thread, but you needed another one to tell him to get his fro fixed.

Never haven't spoken about any other hair look doesn't matter... (and you had no comment about those braids with ribbons from Rave? hmm lol)

Sooo... is his hair that important?

Instead of a decent show, let's have him sit on stage in a barber chair, and Tabitha Coffey can give him tips on styling and care. Maybe the NPG will play something in the background...

But whatever... biggrin

lol

I do think he may change it anyway

I prefer the look of the photos from the video of him and Andy vs the Views look, the look from the View looked like a wig or doesn't work with Prince's 'wardrobe'

lol @ bolded part. All this fuss about his hair, reminds me of portions of India Arie's song "' I Am Not My hair'. You'd think because Prince wore his 'fro, and to some it wasn't shaped up enough or perfect for them, that all this talk about him wearing his natural hair was like the second coming of Christ. lol

I am not my hair - India Arie

....[Chorus]
I am not my hair
I am not this skin
I am not your expectations no no
I am not my hair
I am not this skin
I am a soul..............

....................
[Bridge]
(Whoa, whoa, whoa)
Does the way I wear my hair make me a better person?
(Whoa, whoa, whoa)
Does the way I wear my hair make me a better friend? Oh
(Whoa, whoa, whoa)
Does the way I wear my hair determine my integrity?
(Whoa, whoa, whoa).
I am expressing my creativity..
(Whoa, whoa, whoa)

If I wanna shave it close
Or if I wanna rock locks
That don't take a bit away
From the soul that I got
Dat da da dat da [4x]
If I wanna where it braided
All down my back
I don't see what's wrong with that
Dat da da dat da [4x]

As long as he plays a kickass 3-hour show, he can shave himself bald from head to toe, as far as I'm concerned. shrug

lol I hear you. I was proud of India when she did that song, and those words to that song ring true. Too often, Blacks in particular are rated by others according to how they wear their hair, and it is much more sad, when they do it among/and to themselves..is it straight enough? Less kinky? etc., Embrace the kink, and the various textures that it comes in whether, twists, dreds, wavy, curly, kinky, kinky-wave, kinky-tight, kinky-curly, way/straight, and if you choose to perm it, then go natural, bald, wear a weave, wig, etc., then feel free to do so. If other people have a problem with how you choose to wear it, that's too damn bad. Let it be their problem. Too many people have been brainwashed 'negatively' about the texture of Black Americans' or Black Africans' hair. Yet we all have various textures of it.

Your hair shouldn't be what measures your value or be the reason how another will choose to accept or embrace you. I hope Prince rocks that 'fro to the max. If he decides to change it tomorrow, then go back natural the next day, that's fine too, but at least it would be his choice, not something he has to ask permission to do from his fans. At the end of the day, how he chooses to wear his hair will not take anything away from his value as a human being, as a musician nor will it take away any of his life's achievements. fro Peace and hairgrease.biggrin

MadamGoodnight

Prince has sung about his hair in many of his songs. If it's being discussed, he has a lot to do with that lol

Mellow

U know, it takes, a while, 4 me, 2 do, my hair

Prettyman

everywhere I go

people stop and stare

they just wanna see me swing this pretty hair

Big White Mansion

Do I really have 2 cut my hair?

that's a cross I could never bear

The hair just doesn't look good. It looks wiggy.

This is my least favorite look since the Rave jumpsuit and the braids that looked like Buckwheat from the Little Rascals. This is coming from someone who likes ol' Princey in damn near anything. He can pull off a LOT of looks, from capes, to hoods, hats, heels, you name it. This look from the View is so far off the mark though. It's a miss, not a hit.

I hope I am not sounding insulting, really. This fro just doesn't become you and it takes something away from you. Now from the standpoint of you just wearing your hair "natural", that's cool, I'm not knocking that. Just shape it up a little differently, whoever did it did not do a good job for you and the shape of your face. I know it sounds a bit juvenile and some may say it's none of my business, but sometimes people around you may not want to tell you, but if I were your friend or family member, I'd tell you. I wore a fro for years and love it, but they just did not do a good job shaping yours to your face this time. Hope I'm not offending anyone. I jus love ya, I will accept you any way you want to be, just thought if no one ever told you, you should just have someone else shape your fro differently.

Love ya (as a performer of course) and see you in Chicago!!

clapping I couldn't agree more. This will be my sister's first Prince show and I'm a little concerned that she won't get the whole Prince package. I know it's primarily about the music, but it's nice to look up and see someone sexy playing the music. The fro can work if shaped better. I need to see Prince look fly. He's been perfection on stage for 30-some-odd-years. I just pray he doesn't break this trend in Chicago.

This ^^^ all of this clapping

Maybe he won't wear it that way, or wear that ensemble.

Remember the dreaded Samurai photo?

Well, he didn't go onstage in Australia with the samurai look, afro and swords.

Maybe he will go back to something that looks better as he did in Australia.

Gotta be honest: I feel pretty sad that there are folks genuinely concerned with Prince's current hairstyle and how it will affect his concerts. I know certain aspects of appearance can impact a show (obvious weight gain/loss, artist looking exhausted and drained) but I don't think a hairdo is one of them, no matter how much I dislike it.

He's hiding the luggage underneath them.

I can relate - I was always sort of bummed that I had trouble wearing contacts. But add a few years, and the glasses serve a purpose beyond making it possible to see. lol
