The Vault's an excellent album imo, was tempted to add it myself.

Don't feel guilty. One of my favorites too. It's just greatness.

I've seen the two opening tracks get everybody on the floor dancing.

And "When thelights go down" is one of his finest, I could put that on repeat for a whole day and not get tired of it.

The trouble with ranking 5 top fave by Prince is that he has 30+ albums under his belt of full material not to mention side projects and unreleased vault tracks, which who knows how many songs are in there! It would be easier to rank someone like Led Zeppelin because they have eight albums, or even U2 because they have 12 or 13. But this dude has literally dozens!

I am really struggling not to include The Black Album and 1999 in this list! LotusFlower has also ranked among some of his very finest work. Hell, I love all three discs! And ATWIAD is an amazing listening experience from start to finish every time, it takes me to another world. And hell Emancipation has a lot of filler, yes, but the good songs on there are really good, where those individual songs affect my attitude to want to rank it really high.

But it does seem to help that my favorite era hands down was '86-'88, boy was that such a wonderful time for his spark!

I absolutely enjoy, appreciate and love ALL of PRINCE's albums. I have been a fan since 81 when Controversy came out so his music is the soundtrack of my life.

Right now my top 5 favs are the following in no particular order.

But maybe I'll put 1999 ahead of Sign O the Times. For me, actually, these 3 first albums are almost just as good. His three best. They rank just for a very small difference.

I much prefer Rave In2, cooler remixes, extended trax and the addition of Beautiful Strange.
