This is the only active thread I see at the top of the forum about new bootleg releases (although there are others further down in the list). The other threads relating to TDG have the general theme of "Prince sucks." Those type of threads pop up regularly whenever Prince does something fans don't like. Look back at what happened when he made his burqa comments, for example. People nursing an old grievance (including myself) come out of the woodwork. But on the TDG issue I feel strongly that it was a bad move on Prince's part. If this is not the place to have that discussion, the mods should make that clear.

I'm typing on my iPad so I can't go and cut and paste all the thread titles I am talking about but all of them on on the first page of this forum. They are not all discussing bootleg titles but all of them are discussing bootlegs.
But whenever you make a new post, like this one, all you do is provoke an immediate response from one of the naysayers like me. If you and rdhull stopped responding to djThunderfunk, tittypants, myself, and others, the controversial threads would eventually drop down the list and we'd be back to speculating about remasters for the 10,000th time. The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach. |

There's something I can't understand about all those 'fears'...
What exactly would be lost if this place happened to disappear for whatever reason? What are y'all getting from it?
Quality discussion?
Quality information?
????
Housequake's shutdown was one of the worst moments the Prince fanbase has ever seen, but losing the org? What would be really lost and missed is beyond me.
I'm not saying that I'd like this place to die. I'm just saying nothing great would be lost if it did. |

The Prince internet fan community. What else is left? Yeah, there are a lot of problems here, but it's the last big place on the internet to discuss Prince.

I'm not saying that I'd like this place to die. I'm just saying nothing great would be lost if it did.
What would happen is that the discussion would quickly shift to another platform. There are other Prince fan websites out there that are kept going only by a few dedicated contributors because some people come here for their bootleg news. As a consequence, the main traffic stays here. If this is now going to be the "clean" website where we stay away from any talk about bootlegs in return for immunity from the Prince police, then that decision should be made by the mods and announced here. The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach. |

So, since you're against this type of talk right about now, I'm assuming you won't be back in this thread. Too bad, (not) so bad.
I disagree that this is shit you guys talk about all the time. But since the tdg thing, conversation has exploded along these lines. I'm not one for getting folks to stop discussing anything but one bootleg discussion thread a week, let's say, versus abut five since tdg got shut down is a bit suspect. Carry on.
No that's bullshit. EVERY time a new boot gets announced, there is a discussion. EVERY time a site gets shut down, there is a discussion (this time, for some reason there are two that should be merged into one). There is no org rule about how many bootleg discussions are had per week. That would just be... weird.

TDG is just the latest episode in the ongoing "fuck you, Prince" series. Look at the threads when concerts have been cancelled, or when he's gotten into some financial trouble. They shoot to the top of the forum because it's interesting: it's news. Now, you could have a website with tighter moderation rules where overt attacks on Prince are not allowed. Maybe there is a need for such a site. But whether prince.org should be that site is not for you or I to decide. The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach. |
