Prince - Open Book

Open Book... I just recently became familiar with this song even though I hear that it was made quite some time ago. Nevertheless... I love it. It would be great if he officially released it.

Remember when u told me that love was touching souls?
Well, surely u touched mine. O{+>

him releasing his own version of this song would be a dream come true. preferably as-is. but even if he fiddled around with it or even re-recorded it, I can't imagine him screwing it up TOO bad. Jevetta Steele's version is alright, but Prince's version sets a perfect tone of resignation and meloncholia. the chords, the beats, the way he sings it.

it's very moving. and one of the rare instances where I feel like Prince is giving us a real emotion in a studio recording, instead of posing (to quote the song).

"does my cock look fat in these jeans?"

I totally agree with you. This song is very moving and emotional. After I heard it, I kept replaying it over and over again. Another jewel to add to his priceless collection. biggrin

Yeah I was listening to this earlier. Just a great little tune, errant sums it up nicely.

Always loved the song, but for me, it'd be even better if he got rid of the 'posing' rhyme. Many of the songs around the early 90's felt to me like 'first drafts', with some rather odd rhyming couplets (I love u in me = Surgery as another prime example), which would have benefitted from another draft on the lyrics.

That being said, I'd take the original version over any reworked version he would do today, so I guess beggars can't be choosers! smile

blah blah blah

An unreleased classic in my book (pardon the pun).

A top ten hit methinks had this been released back in the day.

Little? Yeah, right. It might be little but it's loud

Love, love, love.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Prince won't ever release songs like this because they evoke 2 much emotion. With the exception of Comeback, Pearls B4 The Swine, & some of the tracks on Rave ,these kind of deeply emotional songs he doesn't seem 2 want 2 release on his own albums.
