The War is great. But, I have a question, although I downloaded it in MPEG layer 3 audio file format why won't it play on my stereo CD player? I have burned other CDs in the same format--but this particular one won't play. And my lap top speakers aren't worth shit. Can anybody enlighten me on how to solve this problem? I'm scratching my head right now...
BTW The War on headphones is something else. First time I ever listened to it on headphones and yeah the last few minutes are just blowing me away...

Ur file is somehow corrupted or something like that. Burn it as a real CD not an mp3 CD, that should do the trick.
I'm sorry--I'm technologically challenged--could you explain what you mean by "burn it as a real CD"? "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Mmhmm
Heard it! I'm still trying to digest it though as there are SO many things going on during the performance it makes my head explode. It reminds me of "Beautiful Strange" sonically, esp when it comes to laying down the guitar part. I wholeheartly agree btw, its a headphones banger, and knowing his fascination with putting intricate surprises in his songs, this one is filled with them, and it will probably take me a hot minute to FULLY spot them.
Nouvea said earlier that he recorded this and gave it for free, but decided to release NPS. Now I get the comment |

That's uncanny! It reminded me of Beautiful Strange, too, especially the Melkweg performance, and that's the fiest song I played after listening to The War last night... "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

I checked the vault page, and both tracks featured Mike Scott on guitar. That wah-wah playing sounds just like him, unless somebody have a second opinion |

I used to play this in the car on the way to the Paisley shows and it was the exact same length as the drive there. So it reminds me a lot of that time period and conjurs great memories.
The song is definitely some deep listening. I agree with EyeJester about the headphones. It's great to lay back and sort of vibe too. I used to put it on at night to help me sleep. That might sound bad but I don't mean it as an insult. It just kind of takes you away.

That's exactly what happened when I first got my cassette years ago! I played it every single morning on my way to work for months.
The War remains my favorite Prince song to this day. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise. |

I put it in my stereo and it was Prince. After The War was some mix of a lot of different Prince songs. Not the purple medley. It had obscure stuff like Big Fun. A good day indeed. Later I bought the cd.
The Remix Experience by DJ Brother Jules? I never knew that... 1/ The War cassettes sent to people were "hand-made" 2/ There was something else on it what I received was. Just a blank cassette. I dont know the name of the medley. |

It doesn't sound like the one you got was the official pre-recorded cassette single (E.P.??) then. It sounds like you got a copy. Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors. |

The War -- delivered to my home without me knowing it was coming, straight from Paisley Park.
It is what separates prince from all other pop acts and makes him the coolest musician of multiple generations. It's those last 12 minutes. It's edge, funk, rawness; combining guitar, crazy african/cuban drums, blues - and for it to feel so underground....from the same guy who did Rasberry Beret. Awesome.
Yea, thanks from bringing back some memories. I was when it came unexpected like that! (immediately jammed it)!!! |

I take it you have burnt a CD-Rom with a MP3 file on it, therefore creating a CD that, for example, an old 1990's CD-player that can't play CD-roms and mp3 formats couldn't play.
What u need to burn is a CD that would be just like a CD u buy at the record store, not a CD-Rom with a MP3 file on it. Roam into the burning option of ur CD-burner program, u will find how to do it. |
