New circulating outtakes versus new material One thing that really complexes me is that 3 or 4 weeks ago unrleased vault surfaced. People have been stating that Prince has lost it ( Prince even has stated that he's in in studio rehab) but people keep complaining that there hasn't been a new album since 2010. I personally feel that Prince needs a break and to find inspiration and a solid concept for an album. In my opinion, Prince really doesn't have do deiver a new album at all.
He has an incredible body of work.
His body of work has been consistent in terms of delivering and album every year. it's amazing that "Symbol" album(which I find close to almost superior to "Diamonds and Pearls") was almost completed by the time of release of "Diamonds and Pearls" with the exception of a few tracks. Prince is not only a prolific artist but has an incredible backcatalog of material released and unreleased. Pretty much being a year ahead on his next album by the time his current album is released. In a November radio interview to promote the "Welcome to Canada" tour, he stated that he was having bouts of vertigo which is associate with stress and hypertension.
I would rather see Prince rest and take some time off than deliver a lackluster and uninspired album because fans expect him to deliver a yearly album because some fans expect it or the fact that we've been spoiled by his past output. He's in his early 50's and I feel that he needs a break. What i find somewhat pathic is that 9 outtakes that have not really been circulating and a handful of circulating ones have surfaced in better quality.
Thats at least an albums worth of vault material, that winds up being discussed for 2 or 3 weeks and then the threads forgotten about and replaced with such thread topics" like whats in Prince's Fridge(no offense to that post or the poster)" or some other thread that really has nothing to do with Prince's musical output. If just "The Line" Or "Go" appeared last year quite possibly everyone would be putting their 2 cents in about the said songs. No doubt he's working on music but with the current state of the record industry, there's really no presure to deliver a new album.
Hell, the new Van Halen album hasn't even reached 500,000 copies where 10 or 15 years ago that would be at least be double or triple platinum(and that album has been a return after 29 years). All i'm trying to say is enjoy what has recently surfaced and stop complaining that Prince hasn't delivered a new album since 2010. It doesn't mean he's quit or hung up the towel. If a new album came out next month, alot of people will just be expecting the next one. it's like people are just stuck on orgasm with this topic.

I'd be happy if no new album is slated for some more time.
Let's say, no new album until he is willing to release really good music instead of the rubbish he's been putting out since 2004.
I'm still part of the prince fans thing exclusively for the vintage stuff. If he's gonna give us anything close to Musicology, 3121, Planet Earth, Indigo Nights, Lotus/MPLS or 20Ten he can keep it.

If you put together all the Andy Allo Facebook and Dr Funkenberry tracks that's another albums worth.
Let him rest | |

^True, another lame album, even worse that those I mentioned.
Again, if he's going to to something like that, he'd better not do anything.

Exactly. I wouldn't be hurt not one bit if he didn't release any more new music at all. It seems that every time he releases something these days, it just muddies up his legacy even more. I'd rather he just put out what he's already done, untouched.
But, if it's a choice between music like much of the past 15 years or nothing at all, I'd rather him just retire.

BigChick, I completely agree with U! But still, I would love it if Prince did a "bootleg series" like Bob Dylan or, in other words, a Crystal Ball with some thought put into it (and a booklet written by the Leeds brothers!) to keep us diehards happy.

I would prefer new Prince music. What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?

I'd rather hear it to be honest.
It's probably time to take a break from him if you wouldn't but hey to each their own.
Drfunkenberry rehearsal or not Lovesexy is still awesome so I can still put that on

^THAT!
If he keeps on releasing that lame inane albums someday we'll have to say that 'only half (or less)' of Prince's albums are really great and worthy of his talent.
Hell, some day his crap albums could be more than the masterpieces.
C'mon, Prince. Leave it before you smear more shit on your name and legacy. Please. [Edited 8/18/12 7:28am]

I totally agree with you BigChick! You could not have said that any better than you have!

No need to take a break. It would be easy to avoid listening to a chunk of his career and still have an awful lot of other more preferable material to listen to.

^That's what I meant when I said that now I limit myself to the vintage stuff.
Ain't it sad that a fan for 26 years has to beg his favourite artist to retire before he keeps on releasing more shameful albums?

'I personally feel that Prince needs a break and to find inspiration and a solid concept for an album.'
So did he release a concept album lately? (pretending it is 2010...)
Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Yeah, it is kinda sad, as we're both in the same place, and I'm sure there are many others feeling the exact same way. But, it is what it is, and I'm hoping that he has finally realized that he's been releasing absolute shit for the longest time now, all because he felt like he HAD to release something, even when he didn't have shit to say. And to be honest, I think he's run out of inspiration, period. So, it's time to start emptying the vault, unedited.
