Er... which part of "lon-ger" don't you understand
It's longer, that's just it.
Or, if you prefer, the CB version is shorter (despite some weird, useless, background noise interlude being added at the end, just for the sake of making the CD 49 mn). A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

the funniest part about that pointless interlude (which may or may not be the segue that's meant to lead into If I Was Your Girlfriend) is that in the end, the track ends up being exactly the same length on CB is it is on BL,BC. except with less music

It has to be only like 30 seconds of extra stuff. I think some "na-na's" and a "Good Love pt. 2" shout and that's about it. "That's when stars collide. When there's space for what u want, and ur heart is open wide."

OK, sorry, so to answer ur question more properly it's not an arbitrary extended portion, it's really totally integrated into the track and u'd be surprised how much these little 30 seconds add to the dynamic of the whole track. Mountains' extended part was added to the album version, while CB's Good Love version was edited (butchered, in that case) from the BLBC version (which, incidentally, was on the 1987 Crystal Ball album). So it's REALLY worth getting it.
If u don't do illegal downloading, I think u can find the BLBC sountrack for only a couple of bucks on sites like Amazon or in second hand record stores. The rest of the album is really excellent, a good mix of elegant tracks that wanted to reflect what was hip in NY in 1987. Really enjoyable if u're into 80's music.
