Never heard the Cyndi sound in it, but I love this track. So much energy. Remember when I heard it when it was released and was blown away. Never saw the movie though

It's very bubbly maybe that's what you mean when comparing it to Cyndi Lauper? I always got a Scritti Politti vibe from it.
I think most people love 'Good Love' btw, and Camille in general.
It's not a bad flick - MJ Fox, Kiefer, Phoebe Cates and a great little soundtrack, what's not to like

Love this song. To this day, I still only get about 75% of the words right when I try to sing it and even then I don't understand what I am singing. But what a great freaking song. One of those songs that you hate to see end because it gets more and more interesting as it goes. All good things they say never last...

Well ive just found out who "Gustav Mahler is (jammin on the box)...thanks 2 wiki.....
Gustav Mahler (German pronunciation: [ˈɡʊstaf ˈmaːlɐ]; 7 July 1860 – 18 May 1911) was a late-Romantic Austrian composer and one of the leading conductors of his generation. He was born in the village of Kalischt, Bohemia, in what was then the Austrian Empire, now Kaliště in the Czech Republic. Then his family moved to nearby Iglau (now Jihlava) where Mahler grew up. As a composer, he acted as a bridge between the 19th century Austro-German tradition and the modernism of the early 20th century. While in his lifetime his status as a conductor was established beyond question, his own music gained wide popularity only after periods of relative neglect which included a ban on its performance in much of Europe during the Nazi era. After 1945 the music was discovered and championed by a new generation of listeners; Mahler then became one of the most frequently performed and recorded of all composers, a position he has sustained into the 21st century.
I thought he was a member of P's band or something...thats very

^ It's a little bit longer.
I haven't listened to the CB version in ages, but I think it omits the "Good love... part 2" part, it's not missing much.

Camille at his best! Shame that Prince and Warners couldn't agree to let Prince run wild and release what he wanted.
Camille Album is waaayyyy more funky than The Black Album by a long shot! __________________________________________________

I love it. I totally embarrasses the shit out of me even when I'm listening to it alone. But I love it.
This is one of those songs that so awesomely, uniquely corny Prince that you can't really play it in front of other people, because you have to be in on the Princeness of it to get it.

I actually prefer the CB version. It's so on point, it couldn't get any better! [Edited 8/10/12 1:59am]

Good Love is so great..! Prince 4Ever.

Prince and Warners both got it wrong. There should have been a new album every 3 years:
1987, 1990, 1993 etc, and starting around 1996, there should have been massive 5 CD box sets of what didn't make the earlier albums, and a 5 CD box set could come out the same day as the album releases. Prince never would've saturated the market, leaving his music in high demand, and the real Purple Freaks would have huge outtake sets to keep them satisfied until the next 3 years passed. Sure, if the box sets didn't start until 1996, it would've been tough to wait, but imagine the sales and critical acclaim he would've had. Of course, a 5 disc set every 3 years wouldn't take too long to empty out most of the quality out of the vault by say 2009 or so.

Brilliant song. The opening two bars just blow me away.
And the penguin joke! OMG, I fell on the floor laughing the first time I caught that!

what penguin joke? | |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
There's an old joke about a guy that goes to a hooker and asks what he can get for $5. She says, "The only thing I can give you is a 'penguin'". The guy asks what a "penguin" is and the hooker says that if he'll pay the $5, she'll show him. So he does.
She begins giving him fellatio and just when he's about to come, she gets up and walks away. The guy, with his pants around his ankles, totters after her saying "Come back! Come back!" He looks like a penguin in the way he walks. Get it? It's one of those jokes you kind of have to tell in person and demonstrate to really make it funny.
Any way, at the end of "Good Love" you can hear an old man dickering about money, and then right before the song is over he says, "Pardon me miss. Do you do the penguin?"

I totally agree! I don't think I could ever listen to this in a crowd full of people...I don't care what people think..BUT at the same time..this song irks "Color and attention"..lol
It's like singing your favorite cartoon theme song, you'll sing that crap all over and again EVERYWHERE alone; but would you really just start singing that at work? (Well..I would) BUT not normally..lol
I love it to pieces! Good Love is slamming; there is so much color and animation in this track! It's corny, playful on words, and very much defined in as you mention 'Princeness'. People who don't know who Prince is, probably won't 'GET' this song very much. We who know and love Prince, love this type of stuff...But other listeners might find it a bit 'Too FUN and corny'; but Prince can get away with it BECAUSE Prince has a diverse taste and sound in music. Remember, this is the same guy who wrote: When Doves Cry, Little Red Corvette, Why U Wanna Treat Me So Bad, I Feel U, etc..So he can get away with songs that might be 'Colorful'.
IMO..anyways..lol It's Button Therapy, Baby!

Perfect description for a perfect song. "That's when stars collide. When there's space for what u want, and ur heart is open wide."

Love it! First time I heard it was in Atlanta, GA on the radio. One of the top 40 stations and one of country stations were doing a promo where they switched DJs for the day, so a couple of country music dudes were on the air. They were jabbering on about something until one of them breaks it and said, "Well, anyway, now we're gonna play a new song by Prince, who looks like he oughtta be called Queen." Good Love pops on and I hadn't heard it before - awesome. And, sitting there looking at a Lovesexy poster, I couldn't really argue with the intro. The part two is when the song REEEALLLY goes mental
To be honest, this song was the reason I listened to Gustav Mahler #.3 in its entirety, courtesy of Leonard Bernstein. I was curious as to WHAT the lyrics say, but hell, sometimes trying to figure his lyrics out is like trying to figure a David Lynch movie

I configured both albums into one in my Ipod and to my pleasant surprise, it didn't fuck up the flow at all. In fact, they mesh together very nicely.

I remember that it got heavy radio airplay in the summer of 88 and I remember thinking what a strange song it was but it was really catchy. Out of nowhere it stopped getting played and was replaced by Alphabet St. on the radio which I really liked too but missed hearing Good Love. I remember too being dissapointed when the album came out and Good Love was not there. I had to buy the BLBC soundtrack on tape just for that song, (although it also had Bizarre Love Triangle by New Order on it as well).
