Gotta Broken Heart Again appreciation I think I'm in the minority with this one. My impression is that Dirty Mind is such a strong album that this is the song a lot of people forget about. Either it's too simple or too short, but not nearly as sharp as the title track, Uptown or the material that carries more weight.
Me, I love it, but it's hard to explain why... just that its short and sweet, nice vocal work and the guitar makes it sound almost country... which makes it stand out a bit...
I might get called out for saying this, but I actually like it a lot more than "Do it all night" or fan favorite "Uptown"... It's a more than respectable number but something that never got me super excited. My prognosis: everyone loves hearing about Prince rebelling, especially now when he doesn't do that stuff anymore
one thing I've always been curious about... at the very end of the track, there's a noise like something being thrown down the stairs or falling down an alley wall or something... anyone have a clue about what that is? somehow its one of the odd details that makes the song for me... it kinda says "finality"... like he's done with this relationship and ready to move on had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

That Alladin Live in Vegas version is a great reworking of it imo. "Climb in my fur."

I like both versions. The vocals on the live version are incredible. I always thought the sound at the end of the original was a jail door shutting?? Just my guess.

I agree it's a gem and has imo aged very well.
(waits for some dumbass to make the obligatory follow up thread stating Prince didn't write it/ play those instruments he's credited for yada, yada, yada.........

Yeah baby
I'm not up on live shows and what, but I know he brought this back way back when and that is the kind of live revival I can dig.

I think its the guitar imitating the sound of a door's creak being closed.
