Yes, and no.

The U2 is a bundled deal with goodies thrown in the mix used to sell iPods and give U2 fans an exclusive version of the iPod--a collectable.

The opus is something different in the sense that, yes, it does have Prince's music on it, and yes, it is a collectable. But, it's really a high end collectable. The U2 iPod was meant for the masses--it was meant to sell well. The Opus was never meant to be a big hit whatsoever. Prince is not the only star to sell very high end stuff like this--it's not meant for general consumption.

I'm not sure how folks got so upset over this. It really wasn't meant for "normal" folks, any more than haute coutoure clothing is made for the masses---it isn't.

Many of the pieces offered could be obtain elsewhere, and the jewel encrusted nonsense is really just something to own as a showcase type thing.

Nobody who is working off of a weekly paycheck really needs consider these high end type things--they're not meant to offer value anymore than Bling Water was meant to.

This elitist behaviour is what upsets many people. And most weren't interested in that bling, but the video with live footage from the 21 nights. This shouldn't be exclusive material. Hardcore fans want official concert footage for years, and then only a few super rich folks should be able to obtain it? That's just ridiculous.

Yes, so we know that at least one was purchased and delivered.

I set the over/under on number of Opuses (Opi?) purchased at 11.5 which, in retrospect, appears to have been way too high.

Yes.

The iPod was no purple, but regular colored.

And the symbol was not jeweled but just painted.

So the person paid absorbant amounts of money for 35 pages of photos, and 19 songs, and a 43 minute video.

I still think the concept of high-end merchandise around stars is fine so long people know what they're getting.

There's no rule or law that says everything a singer releases has to be consumed by the mass market.

However, the opus really was just crap. If you're going to pay 2100 dollars you should get quality.

Considering that, out of 950 copies, only one seems to have been purchased, I'm wondering whether this video wasn't a fake, a desperate attempt by these opus pple to give the illusion that some pple were ready to spend 2000 bucks for this.

Now Prince is popular among show business people, so it's not unthinkable that a few dozens of celebrities with loads of money have purchased it. I'd buy it myself if I had 100,000 dollars or more on my band account...

But 950 motherfuckers? I don't buy it.

I remember wanting one but the prices were too goddamn high for me so I said "fuck it" and didn't care about it coming or not. This is also around the time Lotusflow3r was about to come out so that was all I really cared about.

Thanks luv4u. smile

"On 10 April, 2009, the website www.princeopus.com opened, announcing Prince Opus, a revised, high-end version of the 21 Nights book, including a customized Prince iPod pre-loaded with the Album: Indigo Nights album and a 40-minute documentary video. A release date was not available, and the product has not been released."

For one think wasn't that product lauched in late 2007 or early 2008???? 10 April 2009 sounds terribly late.

And they are not up to date as it seems to HAVE been released.

I put a smiley in my previous message, but I'm actually serious. If there are enough people involved and if there's a clear plan (who pays what, who does what, what happens next, etc.).

So a number of you loonies people get together and pay nearly two grand for a book with a few extra pictures in it and an unseen docu/whatever on a fucking iPod?

Remember the hype surrounding the Musicology docu footage that was sold by EYE records? A lot of people claiming it would be so exiting, and that it would be great blah blah. Then what happened after it was released?...No one mentioned it at all. Why? Because it was shit, that's why.

Do you seriously think the content is really worth the hassle of getting a group of likeminds to release this footage in the crappy quality it will no doubt be in? And then running the risk of not being able to sell the book and iPod to the next mug?

Really, stop and think what you are doing. Are you doing this to spread this footage for the love of music, and for it to be a gift to the fans? Or ar you doing it so you will be able to masturbate over all the thank you comments you recieve?

Good luck.

Well, apparently, the book/iPod is available for "only" ~550 USD on eBay, not ~2000 USD. But you're right, the quality of the video probably won't be great.

That is a very good discount.

This one has opening bids of £350 sterling or buy it now for £500 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm...695wt_1397
