i just saw a piece of this award show and right after Prince got the Favorite Black Single, Lionel Ritchie's facial expression was so PRICELESS. Now that's what i call a KODAK MOMENT. lol

I know this is not the exact face but this is right after that Prince moment

lol Lionel was a crazy fan like the ones up in the balcony

Besides remembering Lionel's crazy-ass jacket, I do recall him exclaiming "Outrageous!" a lot on this awards show. "Outrageous" as in "That's Amazing!" not "What the Hell!" lol

Someone asked for a Prince photo. This one was taken in 1985 as he arrived at the American Music Awards with his amusing looking entourage. Photo by Brad Elterman

He is wearing basic prince clothing, it's just a long trench coat.

those were the days when an artist could still shock, probably the last days that that could happen. the shock tactics these day are just rehashes of all the Madonnas, elvis', princes etc.., it looks foolish to try and do anything these days. hate to sound old but it's all been done, only the media makes fools out of themselves attempting to hype up a new scandalous act from someone.

Exactly nod the 80s was the last era when artists were bold, unique and "shocking".Most of today's artists are lame,by comparison. They don't even try to push the envelope.Lady Gaga is only "shocking" to the people who weren't around in the 80s,lol.

Yeah he was lol I remember watching this lol he always seemed so shy, afraid and just looking like he didn't wanna be there lol when we know he loved it lol

That was the Purple Reign, it scared even him, PRINCE WAS HUGE, that night was magic, 3 awards Sheila E performing, the whole purple camp except for the Time, P&the Revolution, Sheial E and band, Jill Jones, Apollonia 6, the Purple Rain performance that killed it, they proved they deserved that one

This was also the night that created Hello

That was like his 1st HUGE award show, outside of Uptown right?

HELLO, nice thread, it really brings back memories. Vanity was there and so was Sheena Easton. That was an amazing night. Does anyone have any photos of where Apples was sitting in the audience?
