This is indicative of how many trained educated musicians, surprisingly, are the worst judges of music and can't come up with compelling original music on their own. I can't tell you how many times I've gone through musicians with master degrees that can't hold a candle to what untrained "ear" musicians can come up with or recognize. As a professional producer of sound design and music, I can tell you honestly that out of every ten formally trained musicians, only one actually has talent or an ear for what makes the music work. The rest are like mathematician parrots.
Prince was getting good at guitar and piano as a teenager. There are tons of interviews to confirm this. Certainly he might have taken more and more instruction and influence as his career goes on, but there was no backstage guitarist on his tours. That shit is ignorant, and kind of completely disqualifies your friends.
I remember Femi Jiya himself once posted a response on this board to those rumors and he was cracking up at how stupid they were.
I remember people thinking he faked solos on the Superbowl (even though there was messed up notes!)

Ufoclub a nice read and many will like your writting but it's not usefull in the Kidmelosies case.the thing he write can easy tell us that he is either a 12 year old child,immature grown person who don't have a clue about the things he wish to discuss or he is just a mean provocator who gives a shit about what other say. | |

Somehow i don't believe you.things you say contradicts what a great player would say.will u record and post some example of your playing. P.s. The subject is about Prince,but if Prince was a dentist for example,only good dentists coul critisize his dental work. | |

Any guitarist with a good ear/technique or experience can play Jimi's version of "The Banner" or EVH's "Eruption". It's not that difficult....Just look on You Tube.

kidmelody I'm not saying that you can't play..but when you come to the org and you debate off with good guitarists/musicians (like banished and MindFlux) with some of things you've said, then you're going to be in the purple spotlight.

Hey Kid melody i don't believe that you play or if you do i believe it's subpar poor playing.prove me wrong.send me a recording of you playing. When somebody is learning to play an instrument,it's not only about getting better skills at playing,it is a much more to it.you develoup your ear.Ear is the most important thing in music,beside practise.without a good ear you are screwed ,no theory can help you if you can't hear. A agood ear can alwas recognise some player.when you hear Clapton you know it's him,when you hear Santana you know it's Santana.it's because ever guitar player have their own sound,the way they play licks,think on instrument.They can try different styles but yet they will always be recognised.So it's quite easy to recognise it's Prince playing on Get It Up.it's his sound,his way of attacking ther strings and his way of logic when he plays.the only thing a musician can change is wheater he plays more clean,precise or more sloppy,off beat and stuff like that,and that relates more to a practise. | |
