Lotusflower was the album that got me into being a Prince fan, and even though it's not necessarily my absolute favourite Prince album, I still like it a lot.

Mind you, I also like MPLSound, so maybe I just have no idea.

Don't disparage yourself! You DO have an idea - YOUR ideas, and they are as valid as anybody's here!

Anyway, all those people complaining about MPLSound - some of those tracks sound straight out of the 80s, and if they had in fact been bootlegs of 80s unreleased songs, those people would revere those songs like deities.

MPLSound isn't a favorite, but it's not crap as some allege.

I do think that Lotusflower might have been received better if released alone, without Elixir and MPLSound, because it is the superior album and casual listeners can then focus on it better.

I too LOVE this cd and I WISH that The Morning After existed in GREAT cd quality. The download version was very low and that is one of my favorite songs!!

Where did you download it from? Lotusflow3r.com offered the choice of lossless downloads, I downloaded it from there in CD quality.

Interesting how people now appreciate it when at the time I was singing its praises and people on here were being so damn negative as per usual.

Personally I would say the 'Lotusflow3r set' is the most played CD for me , as I think MPLSound just trumps it, mostly because it sounds much more coherent as an album, the last 3 tracks are a killer combination especially and Ur Gonna C Me is absolutely fantastic (better than the original IMO).

Although it is very impressive, (esp. Boom and Crimson n Clover and Colonised....i could go on) I always felt Lotusfow3r felt like a mixture of tracks rather than a coherent album...77 Beverly Park sounds out of place (and in fact it is, P originally had it on MPLSound but moved it (if you don't believe me check out databank). You can also hear it if you skip it and go from Love Like Jazz to Wall Of Berlin..the flow works much better.

In fact I think much as it's a pretty song it probably should have been put on Elixer instead.

One of the absolute all time stand out tracks for me on the set is 'Elixer', this is almost like a Parade era song. Beautiful.

Twenty or so orgers like it - hardly a resounding success - then, or now: Several of us can leave Mplsound and Elixer - my comments relate to the single disc not the whole collection. So I don't really get what your point is here

Respectfully disagree

Although it is very impressive, (esp. Boom and Crimson n Clover and Colonised....i could go on) I always felt Lotusfow3r felt like a mixture of tracks rather than a coherent album...

Unfortunately i would say that statement could be true of any releases post TRC - collections of tracks, no consistency or organic sense of belonging as a whole.

I really hate those generalizations. The org is no collective, we are not the borg.

Yes, i do feel it's a collection of songs, mainly because we know Feel Better, Feel Good, Feel Wonderful was recorded in 2006 after it was demoed on the NPGMC immediately before it shut down.

I would also hazard a guess that 4ever was recorded around the Musicology era (2003-2004) purely due to the 'sound' and instrumentation sounding very similar to what he put out around that time.

Don't go all rabid on me, these are just my assumptions based on listening.

Dreamer is fantastic too...

LUDWIG - OK don't mean to generalise, not all of you are like that but I just recall that around the time it was released peeps on here were pretty negative and I couldn't really understand it as I thought this is the best shit since Eman, and in a sense I still do.

I'm sure everyone believes you, Prince told us himself when he name checked it on Old Skool Company when he does that thing he does putting album track names into a song.

There aint another like me

in this chocolate box

u gotta dance with me baby

if you wanna see me rock

Call the government man

Tell him we gotta be free

Valentina tonight, I'm busy

So tell yer mama, 77 Beverly Park

It gets better with time

We got the old skool company

Dancin in the dark

I don't mind, I don't mind

I've often wondered about the other possible songs mentioned as only 7 of the final 9 are mentioned. The bit about the goverment man and we wanna be free, most likely at least one bit of that was a track name in one line up. Also, dancin in the dark

^ I love it when P gives clues to unreleased songs in his released songs, such as 'Underneath The Cream' in Hot Wit U....'Horny Pony' in Push for example (although at the time think it was set for release) or 'Soul Psychodelicide' in Joy In Repetition.

It's like a Prince code...perhaps someone should write a book on it!!!

as per usual, people only remember what they want to remember or have their memories skewed based on their own particular observations at the time.

also as per usual, at the time of its release, there were people criticiszing it and people praising it. that's the thing about people, they all have their own opinions that run the entire spectrum of analysis. and nowhere is that more true than at prince.org as relates to Prince's music.

there were plenty of people praising it at the time of its release. perhaps you only remember the conversations where you were arguing with people who disliked it. I remember a rather overwhelming positive response at the time. different persepectives, I guess shrug

Xpectation wasn't released on cd - ever

Piano was never commercially released - it was only a bonus disc for members

The War - doesn't count - that's just a long ass single - I got the cassette razz

I love LF and think it's about as good as Prince is likely to ever get again, if he even has the ability to equal that release in the future.

And I think that if you don't like LF, it's probably best that you just move on and not bother with any of Prince's newer music again. shrug

Yes well said. It's about as good as it's going to get from here on out and probably not even that good.

You have to play it with The Morning After in there somewhere, though.

The Morning After? You must mean the Morning Papers..

I thought the same thing. Actually 4Ever reminds me of The Morning Papers, but I don't like it as much.

I am liking this album a lot too. I don't like the beginning as much as the end, but in some ways that is good. Some Prince albums start strong and then peter out. This one gets better as it goes along.

But the beginning...I think Boom is over-rated, I hate the lyrics to 4Ever (plus it uses a noisy chorus as a crutch), Crimson & Clover is pretty but useless. I didn't particularly like the preachy Colonized Mind or the ripoff Dreamer, but after a few listens they have taken on a life of their own, distinct from the propaganda/Jimi Hendrix. I really like Feel Better, Wall of Berlin, $. Those are near classic album cuts.

But mostly, I like the album as a whole. Song for song, maybe 3121 is better or maybe even Rave is better. But as an album to put on and just enjoy, this one has the feel, the energy, the creativity that Prince is capable of. And what it's missing is nearly as important as what it has. I was a fan of The Rainbow Children, but there is no doubt that the narration ruined that album for many of us who would otherwise have loved it. I appreciate that Prince's recent albums have been concise and simple. And I appreciate that THIS particular one is more creative than most others this decade.

I guess I´ll give the album a few listens...I KNOW it´s a solid album but most of the songs just don´t get me....not like the previous albums Musicology/3121 and the good tracks on PE. MPLSound however, liked it from the first listen!!! Same with 20Ten.Each their own... lol

It seems fans of TRC like LF, fans of 3121 like MPLSound / 20Ten.

i absolutely love this album, it's in no way embarrassing to play in public. EXCEPT feel good, feel better... i just don't feel this track at all & wish he had used 'the morning after' instead

the only track i like from mpls sound is 'here'

& much prefer elixer to mpls sound. elixer has got some nice chill tunes

i loved this project, the european tour, jellyfish & montreux heart
