Hello all,

Looking for help on this signed Purple Rain record. Looks like autographs from Wendy,Lisa, Dr Fink,Bobby Z and Prince. Where`s Brown Mark? Anyways, Prince`s signature seems off but the others seem right. What do you think? Thanks for the help and sorry for the low quality photo.

Looks seriously fake. Prince rarely did signing sessions, and back in 1988 for instance he didn't even write his name. I would be very suspicious of something like this: an item that is unlikely to exist, and moreover where each autograph is easily legible. Signing sessions aren't exactly stress-free events where each band member takes his/her time to write a nice-looking signature. Unless there's a pic of Prince & co signing that record, assume it is false.

Also: IMHO signed items are not worth the money. Besides the fact that they can easily be fake, what's the worth? If I got that signature myself it would be precious to me, but other than that...

Thanks Bart. I have this album that I got from a storage unit. Dont think it was signed in 1988 if it was signed legit. I checked the band members signatures and they look legit. Prince signature does look off though but thats why I ask for some help.

The record store "Michelle Records" in Hamburg used to have a huge Lovesexy poster on the wall, signed by Prince. It was basically the same picture that´s used as the album cover but really huge. I don´t know whether that poster was sold at the merch stands back then.

The signature above looks a bit fake to me, too.

But, other than that, you´re right, I don´t remember him signing autographs up until the early 90s when the album came out.

Thanks again Bart. Will check this out. Also strange that Brown Mark didnt sign it. Could be a clue when it was signed if its legit.

I don't know about this particular item but I know from my own experience, sometimes a band is expected to sign x number of item x for promo give aways etc... It is not the best thing about being a musician, sitting down signing 50 copies of some-thing-or-other. It's done when anyone can be bothered doing it, often when not everyone's around and sometimes, if the star isn't around, one of the others will sign in thier name. So in this case, you might find it was one of the other legits, who signed princes name. I'm not saying it's definately what's happened, but just saying it does happen. I've done it myself.

Thanks for the info. This could be the case. Also, I noticed all different colors used by the group to sign there names which could mean they were there all at the same time.

Thanks!! Will do. I also believe if this was signed legit, it was from the early 80`s. Also I been comparing Prince`s signatures on the internet and he seemed to signed them a little different in certain time periods. P. S. Your not stupid at all. I find ya smart.

Doesn't look like Prince's signature to me. I think it's a fake

His signature has more flare than the one on this album cover.

The other signatures could be real-but not Princes.
