I like to make Prince playlists that fit various moods then make album art for them and put them on my iPod as a "Fan"album. So I was thinking about doing a Dark album, just songs that are depressing and downbeat. Some of the songs I had in mind was Dance With The Devil, Old Friends 4 Sale (original version) and obviously Dark. Anyother songs I should add (preferably outtakes) that are in similar vain? And also, why not leave an idea for the "album's" name? I'm thinking Dance With The Devil or Tales of a Minneapolis Reject (just because I heard Prince was some sort of reject in highschool and in the sense that he has sort of rejected common practices in the music industry)

Funny you mention Beautiful Strange, and Wasted Kisses. I was about to put those on my playlist along with Eye Love You, But I Don't Trust You Anymore, and Witness 4 The Proscecution! I'm trying to think of faster Prince songs like more high tempo material that might have dark overtones to it. I don't wanna fill the playlist with slower music.

Then Shockadelica should be in there. Along with the demo version of the "Feel U Up/Irresistible Bitch" segued songs. Because it sure sounded like lucifer was in that recording booth.

Its so worth listening to both versions of Irresistible Bitch back to back, just for the sheer contrast between them(not to mention the humor). I was so shocked @ the demo version, it made me change my feelings about the b-side from indifference to complete reverence.

You got the cool, calm and collected persona, and then you got this in-desparate-need-of-a-shower stalker who sounds like he's one step away from being off a cliff.

But the funk is definitely the common denominator. The demo version with the "turn it up" part, and the minimalistic b-side with that bassline glueing everything together.

oh, this one certainly needs the newly leaked "lust u always"

perhaps rockhard in a funky place and superfunkycalifragisexy

will fit as well.

One of the reasons I love Prince music so much is because so much of his catologue is filled w/ these type of songs.... that contrast the "pop" and ballads -some of my favorites:

- hallucination rain

- dance w/ the devil

- solo

- there is lonely

- my pill

- pheremone

- others here with us

- 3 chains of gold

- thunder (to some extent)

- the future

You also might consider the SOTT movie version of "Hot Thing", if only for the organ playing alone. Not to mention some of the tracks from Madhouse.

Its gonna be a long playlist because "darkness" is a recurring theme in Prince' discography. It would be easier if you picked a fave out of whichever that come across your way.

Shit, how did I forget about DA BANG? This is one of the perfect ones as well.

As others have mentioned, "Dance With The Devil" is a good one.

i've been listening to the batman track a bit recently. the future definitely has a dark mood musically and to some extent lyrically. great choice.
