Special edition DVD of Purple Rain... ..what special features would you want to see in it if they release one?? I'd want an audio commentary from the director for one...and the stars, too...Prince won't probably do it, but Wendy and Lisa would be just as nice:D "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

Two disk set
The Feature Film: remastered 16x9 widescreen presentation of Purple Rain. Audio tracks: Original mix, 5.1 mix, DTS, any commentaries possible. Bonus Materials: Any "making of" materials that have been or can be assembled. Deleted scenes. All Purple Rain related music videos (by Prince, The Time, Apollonia 6). A featurette about First Avenue. A featurette about the Minneapolis music scene. The FULL "Prince & The Revolution - Live" film (might as well bundle it with a Purple Rain mega-set because, honestly, it probably wouldn't sell that well on it's own these days). Now, WB has begun putting out some NICE 2 disc special editions of some of their initial DVD releases, maybe Purple Rain is a possibility... | |

Also, I'd like to see the footage of the premier at Mann's chinese theatre. I think MTV filmed a special at the time. Any TV appearances at the time for the movie, hell even footage of him getting the Oscar. and if they really wanted to scrape up some bonus material, they can have footage of Pepe, Chazz & Chris Moon raving on how if it weren't for them, there would be no "Purple Rain", and take full credit for something they had no part of! Ideally this project would have Prince's cooperation, but I doubt, sadly, that that would happen. If he did cooperate, I'm sure they could pull together a kick ass collection of never before seen or heard material for supplements. Even without his cooperation, though, it would seem that WB could assemble an excellent set, since they control (or a branch of them, anyway) the rights to videos and any promo films made in support of the film.
I'm torn. Part of me wants to support Prince in his "fuck my legacy" attitude in trying to make a point to WB and major labels. Another part of me wishes he'd just bend over and start exploiting his back catalog. | |
