Exactly.
In fact, in the MC Hammer song, it's a sample from "Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker)" from Parliament. "He's a musician's musician..."

on the other hand didn't MC Hammer "steal" from Prince's When Doves Cry.
the song Pray contains a well known sample.. right? Prince 4Ever.

How ignorant. The answer is FALSE.

He didn't steal it - he paid for it ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

"That's right, we're gonna turn this mutha out tonight. We ain't leaving til they gonna have turn out the lights."- Daddy Pop. Fuck you, coco, for saying I shouldn't post. What the fuck r we on the org for? Interesting, inciteful tidbits on Prince's music? What's more interesting than pointing out that P bit MC Hammer probably because he thought he wasn't hip and wanted to latch onto what the kids were into at the moment. I think that a genius chasing trends is very interesting. So there, dannyd. My dirty feet are gonna keep bringing it all day and if u don't like it lick it bitch. And what's Sir Nose Spanky about, Nouveau? I wish u heaven

You stinky footed fool. Prince did not "bite" MC Hammer. "Turn this mutha out" is not exclusive to MC Hammer as everyone is trying to tell your dumb ass.

+1 We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

omg
Is it ust me or has the org been absolutely hilarious this week?

U have to remember that Prince wrote and provided the backing music for M.C Hammer's Pray (pretty much taken from When Doves Cry)...proving people use lyrics is not easy, how many songs contain similar love related lyrics....
U may also want to consider that MC Hammer sampled Rick James to create the main melody in U can't Touch This....
I always thought that was Hammer until i heard the original (it seems Rick James is not well known outside the US for reasons i don't know)
Lack of credible or extensive evidence...Case dismissed!

I'm not sure what you're saying?
Its already been established in the thread that MC Hammer SAMPLED When Doves Cry, so everyone seems to remember that already. (I highlighted sampled, because that's not the same as "Prince wrote and provided the backing music for Pray". Prince wrote and recorded When Doves Cry, Hammer sampled (and paid) for it.
Yes, Hammer also sampled Rick James. Anyone who knows their funk also knows this.
So, what is the "lack of credible...evidence" about? ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

Sorry for responding to all comments with foul language and defensiveness. I take it all back. But I'm still gonna make threads because im free, baby. Hey btw, the actual MC Hammer album "TurnThis Mutha Out" is a very good rap lp. Underrated IMHO, as is Hammer. When I listen to it now it stands up and sounds classic and not dated. Again IMHO. I wish u heaven

I was so pissed when I heard that song "Pray".I was shocked that Prince allowed him to use that sample."When Doves Cry" is one of those amazing songs that should NEVER be sampled or mis-used that way it's bad enough what Hammer did to Rick James' "SuperFreak".

Doesn't "Work This" by MC Hammer also sample "Let's Work"? or am I just thinking of She's Soft and Wet? Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

Prince didn't "allow" it to be used - artists don't get a choice with such things. The only obligation is that the person who uses the sample must credit the original artist and pay a royalty. ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...
