The whole JW-thing and the lyrics of TRC were so terribly annoying. I knew that he was religious, but that he became such a dogmatic nutcase was shocking and frustrating.

I never thought I'd see him perform wearing those sneaker type shoes, sans high heels.

1. I never expected he'd have so many fickle fans when he changed his name to the symbol.

2. I was surprised when I first learned of him studying to become and eventually became a Jehovah's Witness. Glad he did because he seems happier and more at peace since he did.

3. I never expected those cold-blooded overalls he wore on the muppet show.

4. His butt-less pants on the MTV Music Awards... I take that back, it wasn't unexpected at the time. I thought it was hilarious though.

5. The unexpected death of his baby boy.

6. NPG Music Club shutting down. I wasn't finished buying all the songs I wanted...

I never thought I'd live to see the day that he would pose in an unflattering top/ his hair un-coiffed and holding a sword like in that pic that was recently posted on the org. You know the one.

i never expected nps to have the only tolerable songs since the name change ...

i never expected prince to go from being one of the best songwriters to one of the worst .. couldn't he have just gone mediocre? prince clone go away ... bring back talented prince again

I never expected him to get so engrossed into the JW faith. I mean I think it's cool that he is exploring his religious side and all, but to give up on sex, swearing, choosing to not sing certain songs ie darling Nikki - it's just not how I expected Prince to end up. It's like the fire & passion in him is... gone.

(I totally thought that Prince would participate in strict religious practices. That generally comes with age, especially combined with the loss of close relations and that fact that he was so sexually overt in his youth and young adulthood.)

I'm okay with the no swearing thing, but I'm not against it either.

I think everything there except the stagename change was on the cards. Not specifically a JW, but some other loony cult. Divorce and backtracking - or coming clean - about the name thing were all good bets to make.
