It's in circulation as a leak - and I'm sure most people don't know anything about it. (I didn't until today.) shrug

Also...what aardvark15 said. lol

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I don't know why?....this is new for me but i have this strange feeling> i don't care about the new album from LG & AA with Prince collaboration...i'm only interrested now by his old Stuff & the masterpieces in circulation from the Dark side picked up from the vault!

GCS2000 was the sweet sound of a thousand cherubs' with explosive diarrhea, so it's kind of hard to get excited.

listening to this one for days now and I like it. Nothing new but this is all out funky. I'm not a huge Larry G fan and more so a George Clinton fan when it comes to funk, with that said I still think the new GCS album is real good. Maybe even rivals some of his funk from the 70s. IDK, maybe not but still ace.

What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?

Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda is the shit!!

That blues opening by Prince is heavenly! Man, Prince if you hear, you GOT to do a blues album!

Movin' is a try-to-hard to be Sly Stone circa Stand! It's still pretty good though.

Raise Up has some excellent classic sounding Prince production, but the song as a whole is average. It's only Prince's instrumentation that makes it good. Also, Autotune....really?

The rest of the album seems to try and attempt a Sly Stone circa Stand! impersonation with mixed results.

Some songs have good grooves only ruined by plastic production. Those vegas synth horns are a disgrace, they sound like a game show jingle.

Throw-N-Down The Funk i heard live and didn't know it was a new song until now. Live, it's incredible. Here, it's as above, ruined by plastic production.

No Way is the best of the non-Prince tracks. It has one MEAN funk break down!

Will definitely purchase it. I may sound negative, but aside from the criticism, this album is by-the-numbers-fun. My main gripe being the remakes of his older songs.

Believe it or not, but i reckon GCS2000 had a couple of stronger singular tracks such as Groove On (an absolutely insane groove!) and Utopia. But i would say as a whole, Raise Up is much better produced, even with the flaws.

Throw-N-Down The Funk i head live and didn't know it was a new song until now. Live, it's incredible. Here, it's as above, ruined by plastic production. However, it's still my fave of the non-Prince tracks.

TBH I think I'm gravitated more toward the Raphael Saadiq produced song. Now this one has more of a Sly Stone/Oakaland sound feel than the rest of the album, with some great singing as well(I love the female singer, who's she?).

Love "Raise Up" and I guess it was a good call for letting it be the title track, but the other two I could take or leave. "Shoulda" is a shameless "Giving Up" rip-off without the King Curtis sax solo lol

Now that I think about it, the whole album is a collage of tributes to a couple of artists, Zapp included surprisingly.

I edited since then, but no big change.

Anyway, i think One Day is the worst. It's an absolute cheese fest, almost Heal The World levels. It is another attempt at Sly, but so wrong lol.

I'm all about the Blues, that's why i like Shoulda. Those opening guitar bars.....YES.

I would of liked a proper Zapp esq one, you know, Talk Box usage, not Autotune. That with a big, basey beat would of won.

The break down in No Way would of been a solid separate song too.

Yeah, lyrically, it could be less hokey. But sonically and vocally, its actually quite decent, you could tell Ray studied those fellas note for note(he did show off another ode to them in his Stone Rollin' album).

Now "Shoulda" is just another typical example of Prince letting somebody else "demoing" his songs. Hell, even Larry sounded like him at some points, IDK, it would've been better had Prince sung it himself?

But you won't hear no quarrells from me about the guitar playing.

Well it's all about different strokes for different folks in the end. I'll tell ya something though, it ain't as bad as Hold You Close lol.

I'd agree with that. Prince's backing vocals are hugely prominent too. It would of sounded 10× better had Prince done it alone. It's also missing a couple of guitar solos too.

I might have cared in the 1970s, when Larry Graham was still good his relevance applied to something other than encouraging Prince to be batshit fucking crazy.
