Best Livesexy version Can somone pass along which version of the Dortmund 88 DVD is the best quality wise? Mine got lost and I want to get it again and the one I just got is very grainy. I know one exists that is VERY CLEAR picture wise but I am not sure which one. Thanks in advance

This version http://main.thedigitalgar...uncut.html is one of the best, if not the best.

Do you want a transfer of the LD or a VHS-copy? Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

I don't think the lasedisc transfer is as good as the version I linked to. The colours seem more washed out. Still, each to their own.

I did not imply transfer quality; I implied slight differences in content. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

I don't think there is anything that different with content in any of them. Some of them might have more intermission crap with taped bullshit. The actual performance should be the exact same show except for different camera angles, and picture quality. The old VHS is useless, and there was a pressed release that came out that was terrible.

The only thing that could beat a laserdisc transfer in terms of visual detail is a transfer from the master video tape for stuff before DVD and now HD.
It's possible that VHS colors are more saturated, but they also bleed and streak horribly.
VHS is very low in resolution (although PAL VHS is sharper than NTSC VHS) and a true garbage consumer format.
Somewhere, there is a master videotape of the concert waiting to be transfered. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

I think whichever one shows Prince's full jump and split at the beginning of Housequake is the most awesome one to me...if only for just that one part.

No. This is exactly as it was originally broadcast on TV. The released version on VHS/Laserdisc was edited. Camera angles were changed for others for the released version, and in all around 5 mins of footage was clipped from the performance. This version is as it was broadcast with no edits. Basically the same as your released version, but with the 5 mins of footage intact, and all the original camera angles.

True indeed (what's above) but I think there r not 2 but 3 versions: - The TV ("uncut") version which is all I can find online these days. - The released LD version which I believe the classic "Livesexy" 2-CD boot is taken from (or was it from the "uncut" version???), which has the whole intermission and the show in correct order. - The VHS release which was cut in 2 parts, part 1 actually being part 2 and vice-versa, with the taped intermission being edited to its second half only, and credits added at the beginning and end of each part (opening with Erotic City intro and ending with crowd noise).
What I'd like to know is: - Is the old CD indeed from the LD as opposed to the "uncut"? - If not, does the LD version circulate and under which title? - Is the VHS version circulating as well and if so, under which name?
Owning both the "Uncut" (which has a savage fade between parts 1 and 2 ) and the "Livesexy" CD, I find both being totally unlistenable due to poor mastering. I SO MUCH wish Prince would rerelease a decent version of this otherwisely astonishing performance A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/
