Billy Jack Bitch + Eye Hate U

Can anyone give me more information on who Prince wrote these songs for?

I know that Billy Jack Bitch was written about Cheryl Johnson (CJ) because she wrote some negative articles about Prince. Has anyone actually read these articles?

Is Eye Hate U about CJ as well or someone else now? possibly an ex girlfriend?

I think The Gold Experience is my favourite Prince album - that's some funky shit.

pray Peace in the House of Prince.

Most people say Carmen Electra.

^ Carmen was with Prince on the Diamonds & Pearls tour in 1992 - she was the opening act, "trying" to sing. wink

And they also made an album together..

Gold was a great album that should've been greater...

BJB and Eye Hate U both were interrupted by the NPG operator. In BJB it was criminal, as the horn part was kicking ass while you hear that stupid bitch saying "please access another experience."

The stupid interludes get worse as the years go by. Jam & Lewis went interlude crazy on Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation album, and Prince had to do the same thing on the symbol album and Gold.

Endorphinmachine was a great rock track in its original version, and Prince overdid the keyboards in the final version.

Interactive was not a classic, but should never have been pulled for We March.

As a whole, the thing was overproduced.

In the song Gold, the NPG Operator goes from Beyond Corny to Self-Parody with "You Are Now An Official Member of the NPG.." ( I was shocked that the next line wasn't "Your NPG Membership Card and Lunchbox will be in the mail soon.")

Despite all my compliants, great songwriting, great singing, high energy.

^ I definitely get what u mean about the operator. I played this song among others at a party one time & it comes across as really strange to hear the females voice at the end of the song.

It's still my fave album. Probably cos I love 2 funk lol

I don't know why, but I seemed to equate Eye Hate U to his struggle with his record company at the time.

I guess I wasn't really listening to the lyrics or looking for symbolism that wasn't really there.

He also says in a song that he fucked his sister. I'm not saying that he didn't love Carmen but sometimes songs are not 100% the actual truth.

Anyone know where the idea that Eye Hate U is about Carmen comes from? It's a very old assertion, but I've never been sure of the source, is it something about the lyrics, an associate saying it was about her, or just the timing of the recording?

I've seen it mentioned on here a few times (I recall once by that Ernest character) that Carmen cheated on Princey with the great Tony M, and thats why Tony got kicked out the NPG and then P wrote I Hate U but same as you - I've never known the source from where that rumour originated from?

SoulAlive

I have read a few articles by C.J....she dogged Prince in those days, constantly referring to him as "Symbolina" disbelief I can certainly see why he felt compelled to write a diss song to her, lol.

As for "Eye Hate U"....as another poster mentioned,it was written about Carmen Elektra. The story goes that,Prince caught her having sex with Tony M,got angry and wrote the song.I don't know if this is true but if it is,we should thank Carmen. She inspired Prince to come up with one of his most powerful, soulful ballads ever!

TGE is a great album but I agree with some of your opinions.

Several songs sound overproduced.Because the album was released more than a year after he recorded it,he apparently spent alot of time "tinkering" with the tracks. The original version of "Endorphinmachine" is much better than the polished,over-the-top version that appears on the album.

But what's really frustrating is....all of the great songs that were removed from the album."Days Of Wild","Interactive","Ripopgodazippa".I don't think "Hide The Bone" was recorded specifically for this project, but it also would have been a nice addition to the album.

yeahthat

I love the album! So many classics! It's RAW Prince!

Since Prince had a lot time to edit some things around, he did. He just looked at the original configuration and said to himself "How about I add some cowbell, and a bunch of other effects to these raw sounds"...Hahaha..And he did that to the MAX...But the original 'Endorphinmachine is much better IMO as well. lol.

I don't know why he took off Days Of Wild and Interactive; those should have at least been on the album! I agree with the others you mentioned as well! Some others too could have fitted!

I completely disagree with some of you,

Prince is a fantastic producer.

I heart the great grandiose production, on Gold, Shhh - on the whole album.

The Gold Experience is a brilliant masterpiece, imho.

worship

if only The Most Beautiful Girl In The World had been the original 1994 single version, I don't like the "live/ band" version on the album.

I think it's more about the timing of the recording. Prince and Carmen had been dating from 91 to 93. She was tired of being holed up in Minneapolis and waiting for her CD to be released and moved to LA. I highly doubt that Prince ever "caught" Carmen and Tony doing it. Tony was not fired from the NPG. The whole Game Boyz thing was just over. Prince was at least friendly with Tony during 1994, as he appeared on the same stage as Prince at least twice in 1994.

In the extended version, he says "You owe me a million eight or more," which refers to the cost of producing and/or distributing her album. So yes, the song is at least partially inspired by Carmen.
