Yo, Prince And/Or Whomever Is Representing Prince Now-a-days!

[img:$uid]http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e70/SexyBeautifulOne/Prince%20Gifs/tumblr_m0p9edLkD81qcvaxho2_250.gif[/img:$uid]

Let's talk.

It's the middle of 2012. The internet is here to stay, whether y'all like it or not! Can't we just get past all the sillyness of forbidding Prince related stuff from being posted? I mean honestly, it is already, massively and you're the ones losing out by fighting it. Wouldn't it be better if it were out in the open, so you could benefit from the limitless exposure?

What good is it for me to KNOW and talk about Prince being one of the few baddest musicians left, in all the land, if I can't back up my statements with the EVIDENCE that proves it???? Seriously...damn!!! [img:$uid]http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e70/SexyBeautifulOne/e5019197.gif[/img:$uid]

I apologize if this offends but I just had to get that off of my chest. Now, I'm going back where people are talking about and posting videos of who they think is the greatest the music industry has ever known, while I twiddle my freaking thumbs, listening to Prince's BEST from my hard drive, in the background.

Most of us here already know this. If you wanna go spread the word of Prince, going on Prince.org to do it is preaching to the choir.

There are tons of places on the internet where you can post whatever you can about Prince. There are plenty of people outside of Prince.org who don't know how awesome he is.

So, I suggest going to those sites and telling THEM.

Dude, he's just trying to vent. If Prince or anyone affiliated to Prince sees this thread or not it won't matter. I think his point is it's hard to tell people and back it up with great evidence without their being any video's that show how badass the man is. Even if just Sign O' The Times (concert-movie) was on youtube so many people-especially young people would be fostering a love for musicianship and performance who knows maybe this generation would be bulging with great music.

'Cept for that Call Me Maybe song. That song IS MY JAM!

Yeah I'm kidding.

There is video, lots of it. Videos that get hundreds and thousands of views. There was a video of his While My Guitar Gently Weeps guitar solo that had almost 10 million views.

That video was taken down, but reuploaded by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and that one has over 100,000 views.

So, there are Prince videos out there. It ain't hard to find.

I shit you not, in the past 6 months, I have been running a pub quiz, and the clients are all American, British or Australian, ages 20 to 60--Anyways, we do this music part in the quiz

where I play a song and they have the guess the musician.

I've play 6 Prince songs so far (1 a month), and NOBODY realizes it's him.

One of the tracks was Raspberry Fucking Berrett, and they had no clue who was singing it.

You're missing the point. I know there are Prince videos out there. I said as much in the intial post. The problem is the stuff in the place you're talking about doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of what actually exists. I've seen some things that have knocked my freaking socks off and trust me, you won't find it on YT.

That's the stuff I'm talking about, that I would love to be able to show some folks, when they can't understand why Prince is Prince. These are the people that think Purple Rain is Prince's best work. I don't know about you but I think that's a crying shame. However, it's not their fault, they just don't know any better. We do but what good is that, if all we can do is talk about it?

EXACTLY!!!

And for shits and giggles, I just looked up Raspberry Beret on YT and there's one clip with over 1.6 million views. The problem is they're seeing Prince but the music had to be taken out because of his bs so what's being heard is some damn elevator music. whofarted

Now suppose those 1.6 million views were from people who've never seen the video and wanted to see it, in the hopes they'd like it and want to buy the song and maybe more, would that make them want to seek it out or just say to hell with it? hmmm

Youtube shouldn't be the be and end all of where people are looking to listen to Prince, though it does turn up some interesting bootlegs every now and then. But for the released albums, a lot is (legally) on Spotify & other streaming sites.... or another legal cheap option is to buy mp3s on mp3va.com or some such site (much cheaper than iTunes even...) - easy to find! smile

You're partially correct. YT shouldn't be...the be all and end all of where people are looking to listen to Prince. It should be Prince's own website! With clips, conversations and such on YT and other places linking back to it, where people can purchase legally directly from it! But that's not even possible, now is it?

Hence the problem and the source of my !

I wish Prince would embrace the internet and have an official website, a good one, but thats not gonna happen, and at this point in time, if he doesnt care when why should I care? He's only hurting himself, not me, and if I want to hear something I know where to find it. Also, despite not having a website, he still gains a lot of young fans who are very computer savvy and they know where to get his stuff beyond youtube.

on a side note, at least he jumped on Twitter! which was surprising.

I've said all of that before and I do agree with it, for the most part. However, it is the middle of 2012.

I can go on any website and post a link and/or video to any damn song, by any damn artist that I want to with the exception of one...and it just so happens to be the one that I want to...the most...PRINCE! So now his special brand of bs, is handicapping my fun and I don't appreciate it.

If he doesn't want to benefit from what's going on with the internet, that's fine by me but somebody needs to tell him to stop cockblocking my damn fun. Since I seem to be the only one bold enough to say it publicly. Yes, this is all about me and what I want, damn skippy!

Will it change anything? Probably not but I do feel better having made my feelings on the subject known! [img:$uid]http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e70/SexyBeautifulOne/e5019160.gif[/img:$uid]

Someone needs to convince him that greater exposure to his musical legacy would help him accomplish his goals right now, whatever they might be. He does seem to want Andy Allo's album to succeed, and at least he now has an official Twitter account. Without being on the inside, it's hard to understand why he thinks his current approach makes sense.

Ok. It's a start I suppose. Meanwhile, Prince has 3,602 Twitter followers and I have 4,163. If that weren't such a glaring example of how freaking sad things are, I'd be...

Maybe in Prince's mind, he accomplished what he needs to accomplish in a 30 year career. Perhaps he just wants to coast ahead and do live shows.

My daughter and her friends are 14 years old. They hate what is on the radio right now and are looking on YouTube for different music. Fall Out Boy, Panic at the Disco, My Chemical Romance, ....bands like that are what they are interested in. None of them have any recent music out and may even have broken up. I am introducing them to Prince and they are interested.....it's just not available. They are also interested in Prince because some of these bands mention Prince as their inspiration.

He's missing out not being on the internet. Kids are looking for some good music.
