Because in Prince's mind it reflected the "spiritual rebirth" he felt he was experiencing with LoveSexy after the darkness of the Black Album, a "rebirth" like so many others that didn't quite work out.

So many people did not get the CONcept behind the LoveSexy album cover, but then again, it's Prince and it is kinda goofy.

I will never, EVER forget how uncomfortable I was taking this CD up to the cashier as a teenager when it came out. Luckily she was a fan and just said "I can't believe he posed for that."

I felt the same way as a teen buying the album I was scared to bring it home and I agree with ur thoughts about the concept, but still for the 80's it was way over the top

This is another list I remember seeing a while back. Prince is a repeat offender, but seriously, some of these other covers are just absurd. Prince is NOT the worst... right??

The Lovesexy album cover is , in my opinion, one of the BEST album covers by any artist, ever. I´m not saying THE best, but definitely one of the best.

Can´t understand the ridicule it gets from even his most hardcore fans. It´s the perfect cover for that album and its message.

That other Lovesexy cover ( the alternative one) looked pretty boring in comparison. This one is a timeless piece of art.

^Never was a fan of Lovesexy, but that's another thread. When I think of his best covers this is not one of them I think the Hits/B sides and Parade are his best album covers. The Hits cuz it's simply the face of the man and that is just beautiful I would never attempt to play Lovesexy for someone due to having to open the damn cover

That list is terrible - not only is Lovesexy a great and iconic cover, the Cher and Millie Jackson ones are equally well known and eye catching. When I think of 'worst' I think of boring/non-descript, not 'OMFG skinny black dude with phallic stamens!!!!1!

Lovesexy isn´t necessarily my favorite album either ( though I like it a lot, but I think it´s a tad overproduced) but that doesn´t mean that I don´t like the album cover. It´s a very iconic and beautiful picture that perfectly matches the message and contents of the album.

The ridicule it gets is often based on very shaky arguments such as his nudity or the presumably "gay" look. As a heterosexual male, I´ve always admired Prince for having the balls to use that picture as an album cover.

I´m actually kind of surprised that you, the queen of Prince picture collectors, dislikes this album cover. Never would´ve thought you´d dislike this one. It´s a high quality picture and a very bold artistic statement by both Prince and Jean Baptiste Mondino.

Funny you mention that, I listen to album a ton and whenever I try to skip a song, or restart a certain song from my iPod, I always have to look both ways before doing so because this one time, a classmate saw the album art and got really weirded out by it and thought I was insane

I love the album and as you mentioned is a 'Iconic' cover!

I 'Get' the cover, but I do think it is considered over the top because it's Prince..It would not be Prince; if the cover was anything other than it was. I mean the CD is called 'Lovesexy'..Hahaha

The least thing Prince could do with that kind of feeling was get butt naked on his album cover.

It´s the product of an epiphany and a spiritual rebirth. I think one day this album cover will get the respect and recognition that it rightfully deserves.

Agree it is iconic. Nothing wrong with it. He's not exposing his private parts. He is just in touch with himself inside and out. He is comfotable with it, so why shouldn't others. I agree its all part of the concept of Lovesexy. Rebirth and sexual spirituality... "Anna Stesia come 2 me, talk 2 me, ravish me Liberate my mind".

Lovesexy is flawless, IMO, including the cover. I ain't gay for Prince (just his music) and I think the cover is perfect for the album.

I have a Lovesexy poster in my bedroom - right above my computer.

And I have always loved the cover, very stylish. Just beautiful.

At some of these album covers, I think I am slightly offended that he is on this list with some of these covers.

I agree with others, I love the Lovesexy album cover, he just looks so pure/innocent/vulnerable. I never viewed it as vulgar, just simple.

I recently had my 7.5yr old niece come up to me and say "we just saw something really disgusting in the other room, it wasnt nice". Not sure what she was referring to, i asked her to go and get it so i could see what she saw.

with the cover facing down, she walks in holding the Lovesexy video, too embarrassed to show me the cover!

Let's hope she ain't scarred by the experience, cuz i plan on taking her to see him live when she is old enough !

I have mixed feelings about the cover, although i rate the album as one of his best.

It makes these list because the men voting and compiling them are turned on by it.

It's far from being even his worst album cover. It's a good photograph and the colours are beautiful.
