Because in Prince's mind it reflected the "spiritual rebirth" he felt he was experiencing with LoveSexy after the darkness of the Black Album, a "rebirth" like so many others that didn't quite work out.

So many people did not get the CONcept behind the LoveSexy album cover, but then again, it's Prince and it is kinda goofy.

I will never, EVER forget how uncomfortable I was taking this CD up to the cashier as a teenager when it came out. Luckily she was a fan and just said "I can't believe he posed for that."

I feel ya! Buying that CD was an embarassing moment, to say the least.

To this day, I still have the CD booklet folded in such a way so that cover isn't seen.

If any prince album cover deserves a place in that list it should be the sorry photoshop disaster names "Emancipation". Lovesexy is daring but gorgeous

The Photoshop is so horrible...They must have come up with it in seconds..Which is NOT an excuse!

If not Emancipation then the worst album cover should be Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic... What in the world is he wearing in that??? Like I guess its kinda what he sees as modern wear for the new millenium and all but still, first of all no one dresses like that, second of all it makes switching songs on that album in public almost as awkward as switching songs on Love Sexy

I disagree. That's a pretty awesome well done pic and montage by renamed f*cking great photographer Jean-Baptiste Mondino, who holds in his curriculum amazing music videos like Justify my love. I get pretty annoyed reading complains in the org about people who felt embarrassed to be fans whenever Prince used feminine imagery, once, every since NINETEEN-EIGHTY's Uptown, it has been PERFECTLY clear that P does NOT stand for sexism. If u have sexist worries, Prince is REALLY not your thing.

I'm with you. Its threads like these that show the fans aren't as liberated and free as they pretend to be lol. I never saw anything sexual about the cover and was not embarrassed by it at all. What's to be embarrassed about?

I think the Lovesexy album cover is legendary!

It is a beautiful piece of artistic work, that is unique.

Hardly anyone (except the most famboyant, out-there pop stars (think Bowie etc)) dresses like Prince. I love him for that.

This is no way the worst album cover. As others have said, its iconic, bold and just gorgeous. Prince set a challenge on male nudity (as he did with other aspects of sexuality) and it's appearance on this list proves that some just don't get it. (hint: a nude female wouldn't be topping this list!).

That said, its good to see that most people, even on that site in the comments section, don't agree with tonedeaf!

I agree with you Eyejester - Prince boldly goes where no one dares to go! That's just him, and that's what I've liked about him. There are so many "wtf he done lost his mind" moments - this album cover is actually kind of high-brow and tasteful in comparison. There's his early '80s performances of "Head," there's his song "Sister," his trenchcoat bikini brief outfit, the infamous assless pants, Grafitti Bridge, "Sexy MF" and "MNIP" - the list goes on. This is not your average joe; he's one bold mf'er!
