Maroon 5 covers "Kiss" on Overexposed

I think it's on the deluxe version only. It's kind of like a 50's rock version done in chest voice instead of falsetto. I like it. It sounds like a song Elvis would have had a hit with.

I assume it's similar to the version that the judges performed on The Voice this past season?

I think Blake did Kiss during that performance with Adam doing IWBYL. Blake's was a little more countrified than Maroon's is.

Not sure if that is true, this morning was reading a newspaper interview with Adam Levine, and there is a side note that Prince still had not approved it.

Is it true that they can perform it live without his permission?

No! They have to have a clearance.

No, they can perform it live if they want.

But not necessarily on TV.

Either way, I'm sure he won't be upset if the album sells a few million copies world wide and he gets a nice chunk of change. lol

Adam Levine & the rest of the cast from "The Voice" per4rmed it live on tv. So they had to have Princey's permission boo boo...

Hearing it now, ears aren't bleeding. They do it with a rockabilly twist which doesn't sound too bad. I'll never actually buy anything by M5 because I just don't care enough but if this were an actual single that played on Pandora, I wouldn't immediately skip it. This version would fit on a movie soundtrack if used properly or as a bonus single hidden on the album, I'll gladly admit they did a very good job with it.

Yes, that episode with "Kiss" did air, and there was a big to-do about it. No, Prince was not happy with it.

http://www.drfunkenberry....e-of-kiss/

Here are excerpts from wiki:

"Sexy" (the episode's title) features cover versions of five songs, all of which were released as singles, available for download:[15] "Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah)" by Gary Glitter as recorded by Joan Jett, "Animal" by Neon Trees, "Kiss" by Prince, an acoustic version of "Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac, and "Afternoon Delight" by the Starland Vocal Band.[16][17]

There was not much enthusiasm for the performance of "Kiss". Most reviewers were unimpressed with Will's falsetto: Harper said it made her ears "sad" and Gonzalez said it "really didn't do it" for her, though she did like the sections in his natural register and gave the performance a "C+", and Harper noted that "Holly saved the song" for her.[31][48] Although Futterman said Will "expertly hits the falsetto notes", she didn't "feel the chemistry" until the final kiss.[37] Benigno, on the other hand, said that the chemistry between them was "palpable", called the cover "pretty great", and gave it a "B+".[36] Roberts praised the "real sex appeal" Morrison brought to the number, but deemed Paltrow's tango rigid.[33] Burns commented that white people ought to be deterred from performing Prince. He called the music "uninteresting and soulless", and was dismayed that the tango was "just white with white people tango dancing".[27] Flandez, however, enjoyed their dancing and wrote, "The strong holds, the slow cuts, the perfect swivel of hips and the lean-to's were mesmerizingly seductive."[30]
