Instrumental versions that bring out different aspects

There are instrumental versions of P songs by other musicians that I think are enjoyable or illuminate something about the song that you might not notice otherwise.

1) This one I've heard a long time ago, and I've heard numerous "jazzy" versions of "Delirious," but this one has a distinct Duke Ellington-Take the A Train vibe to it, and you can see how it's not far removed from early rocknroll a la Elvis.

Just came across these two in the last couple of months, and just thought that they bring out different aspects of his songs and his songwriting.

2) This brings out the "New Orleans" or caberet side of "Darling Nikki." I never realized before how much that slinky background part is like a slide trombone. Starts out slow, but give it a listen, it's pretty good.

3) Don't know if I can post the "Future Soul Song," but it's on Soundcloud and Spotify, by Vincent Boot. It's just piano. I can imagine a better piano version being done than this one, but it highlights the "singer-songwriter" vibe of that song when stripped down, and shows the basic melody as quite charming.

That's all. Thanks for stopping by.

WOW!

Great finds. I've been hooked on instrumental tributes to his music eversince I stumbled on the Symphonic Tribute To Purple Rain.

Good thing that they posted the album info for the Darling Nikki cut because I want to have it. Another thing, interesting that you bring the "Future Soul Song", I was listening to 20ten yesterday and I was wondering what this song and "Sea of Everything" would sound like with only piano(ala Silver Tongue).

Glad you liked, harlepolis.

Yeah, I think actually a lot of the songs on 20ten should have been Prince on piano, lots of pretty melodies. I try to imagine his vocal on top of this piano instrumental, that'd be great.

That "Darling Nikki" is quite good, isn't it? I put my computer on my good speakers and then I could hear the bass and all the stuff going on. That song gets overshadowed by its "shocking" lyrics - this instrumental version, you can see how good a song it is musically, and how it's actually based on a cabaret or burlesque style, which perfectly suits the sexual nature of the lyrics. I can imagine Liza Minelli singing it, or a burlesque show. I can also imagine something like this being the tribute when Prince gets his Kennedy Center Honors one day.
