Rejected book proposal on "Dirty Mind"

Continuum Publishing, which publishes those 33 1/3 books you've probably seen in your local record store (you DO shop local, right?) just had an open call for submissions for the next round of books. For the unfamiliar, each 33 1/3 book is devoted to an album that left a mark upon the world, whether in the broad sense or in an artist's career trajectory.

My submission was for "Dirty Mind," which I proposed was the first "real" Prince album in his career. Anyway, Continuum passed on the proposal (they received 471 proposals and can only publish 20 books from that number), but hear's the opening chapter to the cancelled volume. Thought some Orgers might be interested...

SnakePeel..To hell with the publishing company..you need to write this book yourself! Good read.

...I'd buy a copy.

I made a pitch to that exact book range about 5 years ago and got rejected for that exact reason. Mine was regarding Tupac's "The 7 Day Theory" album.

Anyway, I'm sorry you didn't get picked - a "Dirty Mind" edition would be great. I remember being a little disappointed in their "Sign O The Times" book.

Release it as an e-book format independently, why the hell not? You too Militant.

Great read and it shouldn't collect dust at all. Looking forward to the rest.

Bravo, man! I'd love to read the rest of that (and just for the record, I enjoyed the Sign o' the Times book).

I might be thinking of something completely different but I remember feeling that it was more about the author's relationship with the album at the point in his life when he heard it, rather than the album itself. Which is OK with the right balance, but it slanted too much towards that IMO.
